Thanks Vera, it needs an original nib and tie clip, it also has some other issues that needs fixing.

I just started but yesterday my Pelikan M805 arrived in the mail!

I recieved my MB 146 BB today. It was a much anticipated gift to myself. I must say I'm disappointed in Montblanc again. It's not a bad pen, but definitely lower quality than a Pelikan M800 and almost twice the price. The BB nib does not show much line variation. Hopefully I can get it sharpened in some pen show and will get to love it at some point.
Matias
Matias, just want to make sure that I understand, if the BB nib is not a stub, then it won't produce line variation at all, it'll just be a thick line no matter which direction you write, correct?
Now, as you said, at a pen show, you can give the nib to a nibmeister and they will grind it into a stub or even italic. Then, the nib should produce satisfying line variations.

True. However, I tried out a 149 at O'Hare airport a few years ago and the B/BB did exhibit stub-like qualities. It was not a stub nib by any means, but it did have a touch of line variation. Not sure if the slightly smaller nib (length-wise) on the 146 would have the same effect.

Penwash,
I had read many reviews that mentioned that the MB modern B and BB nibs exhibit quite a bit of line variation. Nowadays MB does not offer stub or italic nibs, but from a few reviews I saw (and some writing samples) I was expecting more line variation. To be fair, it does have some line variation, just not enough for my taste and not as much as the wiritng samples I saw.
However, this was a risk I knew I was running by buying online. What is more disappointing is the fact that the 'precious resin' really feels like cheap, injection molded plastic. Some 20 years ago I had a burgundy 144, and my memory of the material is that it was much richer and nicer to the touch than my new 146's. In fact, I find that my Pilot 742's plastic feel much nicer than the MB's.
Matias
I never examined a modern MB closely, just handled someone else's briefly, remembering that I wasn't too impressed.
But I had a vintage MB 342 once that I thought was really nice and I can tell the build quality is high.
Still, I can't imagine MB dropped the level of quality that much between 1950's and today.
