    Gorgeous Pelikan!!

Last night a pair of Nemosine Singularity pens arrived. I bought them on close out ($8 each) as I had been wanting to try one for awhile anyway.

The black one has a 0.6mm stub and the brown is an EF.

They're great pens for the price. I have 4 of them at work (black, blue, red and green) for quick notes and as knock around pens. The extra-fine nib is good for bad quality paper.

If the Carène is being overlooked, that's a shame. It's a beautiful pen, and both the design and the nib are off the beaten track. I own the gunmetal version, and I love it. The medium nib I have is very broad and reasonably wet, though I have to admit it wasn't perfect upon reception. A quick round of micromesh took care of that.

A 2018 SE Parker Sonnet - the Stratum. It has a beautiful engraved/etched cap - and the 18K nib is a surprisingly good. Fortunately I was able to try it out in store - it's a wet writer, a little springy and is pretty good. The Parker Convertor also seems to have had a redesign from the previous models - slimmer in some way and holds more ink. So far, it's kept a constant ink flow and worked. The balance is also pretty good when posted. So, that's my EDC sorted for the next couple of years. I already had an older one in steel, which is much drier. I love 18K nibs.

I picked it up in the John Lewis sale - it was half price, and then I got a further 20% off, so I bought it for £95, instead of the £246 list price.

Here are a couple of rogh and ready phone pictures of the pen I bought today at the London Pen Show. John Twiss makes brilliant pens and this clipless gem in a blue lizard skin cellulose is just lovely. One can write so effortlessly that it makes my old mantra of "From heart to hand to paper" achievable.

This one arrived yesterday. A 1920s Mabie Todd New York Swan self filler in rolled gold overlay. No brassing at at all - astonishing at 90+ years of age. There is a tiny mark i=on the filler lever and a name nicely engraved on the barrel. The nib is a typical classic MT NY job...

I have admired Twiss Pens for a while but there a couple of things holding me back.

There is what appears to be quite a big step down between the barrel and the cap threads, is it noticable in use.

I have bought similar pens from other makers in the past and found that the performance of the nib is quite ordinary, in one case it was poor. Is a Twiss pen all about the looks or is there some performance and personality behind the pretty face?

That material is lovely. Is the pen made from a modern acrylic or an old piece of celluloid? I agree about the uncomfortable step-down. The most expensive Japanese pens feature heavy step-downs, too, and I've learned to steer clear of that design.

The material is cellulose acetate, this is taken from the Twiss website

This material is becoming increasingly rare It was made around the 1930's/40's in LeMan, France. It was originally made for the likes of Parker, Waterman, Conway Stewart etc. This vintage Cellulose Acetate is made in strips approximately 1 inch wide and spiral wrapped around a mandrel
