Today in the mail I got a stainless BB Sheaffer Imperial. Was supposed to be mint, but when I flushed it, out came Herbin Sapphir. Can't complain though--it had a convertor that was unmentioned, and has nary a microscratch on it.

Just off the USPS truck. Lamy CP1. Now I just have to get a converter and a 1.1 mm nib for it. It came with an F nib.

Yeah, well... little did I know it but that one was the "consolation prize", had I not won another auction yesterday.

I really don't go in for the "Grail pen" meme, but there really are only a couple of pens I've wanted enough that I've kept my eye out for, and tried to land them. I finally got one I was really hoping for. The photos on the auction weren't that great, but they didn't obscure a good pen (I don't think!). So winging it's way to me as some point is a full-size Conklin Endura in black/bronze. I have one of these in the small ring-top model, and everything about it totally hits my aesthetic. This particular celluloid has got to be one of my favorites of all time. I'll definitely post pics when it arrives, and if the nib is anything like the other two Enduras I have, I am so much a Happy Jon I can't say!

What sort of CP1 did you snaffle up ? Matt black or platinum ?

My most recent arrivals - and this photo fails to do them justice:
    P1000136.JPG

    1. 1944 Parker 51 (vacumatic), Fine nib, gold filled cap, midnight blue (I know in the above photo it looks like black, but it's actually a very very dark teal) in near mint condition. I do not know how people managed to keep a pen in such pristine condition for 70 years. The body is so shiny and the gold has almost no brassing at all. It's not cheap, but totally worth it. The nib behaves so well and the pen sits so comfortably in the hand, I must say that Parker 51 is one of the best pens ever made.

    2. Caran d'Ache Leman Bicolour Turqoise, Fine nib. This is a heavy pen (47g), but it's sooooooo exquisitely made -- its build quality is head and shoulders above any other pens in my little collection (including a couple of MB Meisterestuck and an S T Dupont, which are near flawless themselves). The 18K fine nib is deliciously smooth out of the box.

Matt black for me. I have a black Lamy nib that I may just grind into a stub myself. Just need the converter now.

Kasino Bird: What gorgeous pens, congrats on the haul.

I dropped by my local thrift shop today, and rummaged through the cheap small items/scraps box sitting outside the shop, when I noticed this little thing - and instantly got it out of the box:

I know the blotter is scratched and it shows the wear and all, but for 2 DKK, I can live with it. That's 35 US cents.

    Lovely pens! Congratulations.
I still have my father's 51 which should be from the early 50's and it is indeed so well behaved. But it must have taken a lot of abuse because it's all scratched and bruised.
Agree on the Cd'A, they feel like they would not break in a million years. Maybe it's the picture but I don't see any threads. Does it have a slip-on cap? Never seen that before.

John, my red Visconti Rebecca Moss arrived last night! Great minds, and all that. Also in the box was a green Visconti Rebecca Moss Millennium. The red one in particular is pretty stunning with the black swirling. But both just lovely and great additions as #28 and #29 to my Visconti collection!

Thank you Peter. Re the CdA - it is a screw-on cap. The threads are quite fine and unobtrusive. If you look very closely at the picture, you'll see the threads immediately above where the section ends. It only takes 3/4 of a turn to screw on/off the cap. The threads end with a thin band that says SWISS MADE, followed by a rubber O ring to help seal the cap. Talk about attention to detail.

I hope my Visconti like yours, there is an amber Visconti Rebecca Moss which is very beautiful too. But the price is not good enough for me. Next target will be the Visconti Ragtime LE or Opera Element.

Those are good targets! I did see the Amber, but I have an Amber Voyager that is so similar it wouldn't make lots of sense for me. Not sure what I have targeted now. Ones I really would like are out of my current comfort zone on price. So I am just watching what is out there.

I think that there are not so many eye catching items for you to pick from Visconti now Because you've a lot in your collection already. I only know that never can't get enough, right

Indeed, a sickness really. I have if the low middle and moderate high range covered. I live my one Delta, I might take a better look at some of those and take a brief break from Visconti. Brief.

A brief break from Visconti......me too. After I get the Ragtime or Opera element, I will turn to Omas L'Aqua di Bologna. May be it is my destination on collecting fountain pens.
