Parker 75 Custom, with a burgundy barrel. The gold cap and dark red barrel echo the color scheme of what is (for now) my favorite among my pens, a Parker 51 Aero Demi, also Custom. Gold cap and red barrel seem to make a good combination for me.

Still, two examples may be enough. I am reluctant to make gold and red the obsessive focus of a sub-collection. Others would no doubt advise me, "Go for it."

I have always thought that the English Waterman's 515 is a very handsome fountain pen. Tragically the No 5 Waterman's nib fitted to this model is nearly always, in my experience a fine nail.

I recently bought a lovely example of the model in dark blue. Happily the "nail" had a longtitudinal crack thus making it scrap. Since 515 nibs are likely to be hard to find - plus the fact I don't want one anyway - it seemed to me that yet another Frankenpen was on the cards. However a No 5 nib??

Ha ha! It turned out that a No 5 Waterman's nib is exactly the same size as a Swan 3, and I happened to have a nice Swan 3 stub to hand.

    Here is the result:

I forget where I left off but lately my collection has greatly expanded again. The most recent that come to mind are a black Sheaffer Balance OS, Montblanc Skywalker Platinum and black resin with F nib(the original model), and as of a couple nights ago, the Montblanc Boheme noir with a buttery smooth broad nib.

I've had a busy first week back after the SF pen show weekend, and I still have to do my annual show report. Here's a preview, 3 important pens (two new to me) from the show, bottom to top:

    • Parker (Canadian) Vac in Burgundy, 1st gen lockdown from Stuart Hawkinson (he was kind enough to do a trade+$ for variant I didn't have), and it's got a nice stub nib.
    • The lovely new Aurora 88 in matte black / rose gold from my bud Dan Smith, purchased while he was working on my other pens! (Lucky me: my wife was there, and simply said "Early birthday present").
    • My 1937 Vac Shadow Wave, which is now my 1st ever Vac restoration on my own, courtesy Joel Hamilton's Vacumatic repair class.

It was a great show, lots and lots of fun. When I get a full report with pics done up, I'll post it.

    Cheers,
    Jon

Jon, two vintage Parkers and a modern Aurora? I'd think the brainwashing was working if you just had added a Safari or some KWZ ink to that haul.

Yeah, I know, Lamy is a four-letter word to you.

Gosh, Jon, that Burgundy Vacumatic is pretty! I don't have a Parker Vacumatic in my collection yet--I'll be looking for one at the Dallas Pen Show.
