Last week I entered the hobby with a couple of those Pilot MRs from Staples. Then I grabbed a blue Prera off Amazon. And now I've got an Ahab en route from Goulet with a bunch of ink samples.

    Pray for me.... Lol

Moto Z Forced me to do this.

Not the absolute latest, but one of my recent purchases is shown below, along with a favorite friend. Well, Dan Smith was going on about today about people's "#1 pen of all time". Yeah, right. Like choosing among the kids (or the cats). So it's gotta be at least one vintage and one modern. Here's where my heart was today: Sheaffer OS Balance in Ebonized Pearl (1934-5) and the new Aurora 88 in matte black with rose gold hardware. Over 80 years apart, and both are dream pens. I purchased the Aurora from Dan at the SF Show, and was really prompted to by my lovely wife, who insisted it was an early birthday present.

    Ok.

Thank you. I truly consider that my best find ever. Extremely lucky, I was (though it was after searching for about 4 years for the right moment). Two older shots...

Beautiful pens, Jon. Really beautiful. You are most fortunate.

Recently I sold off half of my Mabie Todds (all 3 of them) and all 4 Esterbrooks. I've got a John Holland ring top, a Diamond Medal ring top (in lapis), and a couple of Indian things (Ranga 4C and ASA Nauka) to get rid of. Not sure exactly how right now, I'll figure it out eventually I guess. That will leave me with about 10 pens. From there the culling becomes more problematic.

I'm currently in the process of giving away a really nice working Sheaffer Balance in marine green that I bought recently on the 'Bay (too fine a nib for me) and I will probably throw in a Parson's Essential and a NOS Reform 1745 with that package.

Anyway, my latest good pen acquisition is a custom oblique from Mr Chris Yoke, which is in construction at the moment. Other than that, I got nothing.

Question about the Aurora: I had thought to throw whatever tiny sums I get for various things at a modern Aurora. Not sure about the 88 line or the Optima line though. I presume you saw both at the show, and if so could you outline any obvious differences. I do have a vintage 88P which is a decent writer.

Fascinating find at the sales this weekend; a Senator combi (ballpoint and fountain pen) in brushed steel finish, looks like the bastard offspring of a Lamy and a Bic. I'm guessing it dates from the 1970s. Very odd. I thought combis had died out by the 1950s, but apparently not!

Hi Rui, I fixed the two links for you:

    http://www.penamie.co.uk/html/swan/swan078-detail.html

    http://www.penamie.co.uk/html/swan/swan116-detail.html

Those are sweet-looking Swan pens. I love the circle arrow on one of the nibs. Perhaps you'd show us some writing samples

    A present from my wife!

    Pel1.jpg

I have been wanting one of these for a while.

    Pel2.jpg

Filled it with Pelikan Blau-Schwartz, so it would start with a Pelikan ink.

    Pel3.jpg

Tried for an "artistic" effect, but I'm not that good a photographer!

    Pel4.jpg

    Very happy to have it!

(With thanks to Denizzz, whose friendly price made it possible.)

Thank you very much for fixing the links for me.

Sometime ago I did post somewhere an example of the Copperplate Script I like to practice with a flexible nib. At the moment I am not sure if these are flexible enough for that but we will see.

The circle on one of the nibs is a "C" for Caligraph but that does not mean much until I try it as I have some of these nibs which are not flexible at all. I was missing these pens in my little Swan collection.
My other writing instrument is a pencil.

I just got this danish Mb "2" in coral red, it cleaned up nicely and just needed a new rubbersac, they were made between 1937 and 1946.
Nib is a Ef size with some flex.
Itīs very similar to my MB k2 but a little longer.

Visconti Divina Metropolitan. I've always liked the Divina, but the combination with the Wall Street celluloid was too much to resist.

I bought it from the London Writing Equipment Show a couple of weeks ago ! I've been looking online and the pen looks like something that Peyton Pens in California produce with resins from Indian company Ranga.

Happened across this Staedtler Premium Initium Corium Urbes "Moscow" (which is a mouthful for one little pen...) selling for about 6% of its MRRP (the latter being insanely high, quite honestly). Sold as used with "cosmetic imperfection". Been all over it with a loupe and frankly it looks brand new to me, even the converter is present and correct, so no idea what was going on there. Lucky me?
