I went to Dromgoole's in Houston on Saturday, which means, of course, that I bought pens. Well, I bought one, and then I mooned over another one until the hubby said "Would you like that pen? I'll buy it for you." So I bought a Think Violino pen which was green with purple caps on each end, and the husband bought me a purple Visconti Rembrandt. And how lucky were we? Their nib doctor was there, and he ground the nibs to the XF that works best with my hand.

Here's a link to a Fahrney's image of the Think Violino until I can take my own: http://www.fahrneyspens.com/Item--i-110915S

Larry Dromgoole gave me discounts on both pens, too.

A Pilot Stargazer in red with a fine nib. What a cute little pen! And a great writer! I snagged it for a bargain price with the $15 off coupon from Amazon a few days before the prices went way up.

Rui, what do you think of the 90th anniversary? I have been thinking of getting the 149 or 146 90th anniversary with an OB nib, but can't seem to justify it when I already have a 149 and 146 that I love.

All I can say is - Those damned Andersons over at Anderson Pens!!! Or wait, is it thank you Andersons? Such a fine line in this obsession. Seriously, love them, and they had this available, which is now on its way to me.

Here's my final pen purchase for the foreseeable. Zanerian style oblique holder by the estimable Brian Smith (musinkman) in Gabon ebony, olive burr and redwood; the flange is set up for Leonardt Principals. I honestly don't see how it could be improved upon.

It certainly stands out among this little lot:

Brian is an absolute pleasure to deal with, and I'd recommend his services to anybody looking for a special penholder unreservedly.

Latest acquisitions were not complete pens, so I won't put up any pictures at the moment. I have trouble with the Macro mode on my camera showing real closeups of nibs. I ordered two Cursive italic 15º left oblique (phew) specialty nibs from Richard Binder: a gold plated steel .9 mm for my Pelikan M200, and an unplated 18k gold .7 mm for one of my Pilot Vanishing Points.

I'm not sure why the gold plated steel for the Pelikan is $12 less than the unplated steel, but never mind, the M200 has gold trim anyway. So far this nib requires me to write fairly slowly, but it's quite smooth when I get the rotation right, with nice line variation, and it's a decently wet nib, too.

The Vanishing Point nib is already very easy for me, quite smooth, with a little line variation to give everything more character. This one could become a daily user.

Under the loupe, neither nib is quite as rounded as I'd imagined they would be, but neither are they as sharp as my regular italics. Anyway, I'm already quite happy with the Pilot, and think the Pelikan will only take a bit more practice. Why did I go with obliques? Well, I've always tended to rotate my nibs, and I have some Esterbrooks with left oblique "relief" nibs, which are rather nice to use. Thought I'd like a rather less crisp version, though, and went with two pens which seemed like good candidates for a different nib.

Absolutely superb. This reminds me of an early 1930s Waterman that I will never be able to afford.

Congratulations on your latest Visconti........what number are you up to now ?
The blue & brown material is stunning.

There looks to be a lot of metal in that very substantial clip. Does it have a pearl ?

But what no iceberg shaped pen holder or pen pillow - Visconti dropped the ball on that one.

Ha ha, no iceberg. This will be #38 I think in the Visconti section of my pens. It has been shipped, should be here maybe tomorrow? Yes, there is a pearl.

Eversharp Skyline with a nail of a nib, desert dry. I may leave that for a pro to adjust.

There is a small crack which was disclosed by the seller. If I feel strong enough, I may try to weld that myself.

Thanks Joe. I'm still breaking in that nib, it's at the "what's all the fuss about?" stage, but starting to relax a bit now.

Very nice pen, 00photo. I have the smaller 1 band model (6141) and that green marble finish is comfortably my favourite of the type ... it has tremendous depth and shimmer.

    00Photo, that's a stunning pen. Congrats!

I sold a few pens recently and recouped my funds, so I splurged (by my standard) on this one:

Very nice, I have looked at that before on Goulet's site and is my first choice for a Vanishing Point .
