My enthusiasm for Swans is probably quite well known hereabouts, but another make for which I have a soft spot is National Security - not particularly the 222 lever fillers, good pens though they are, but I like the stud fillers and the Vis-a-Tank models.
I have recently acquired this one and I have not seen another like it it is marked "Patent Applied For". Obviously it is of Lang's manufacture; I love to see the creativity that manufacturers in the 1930s exercised in coming up with new ideas for filling systems
National Security metal Button 4s.jpg
It is in effect a bulb filler, but operated by a very neat button arrangement using a special small pressure bar. So its operation is on the same principle as a Parker Vac, but infinitely superior, both in filling efficiency and ease of repair. The button's operation is delightfully weighted and a pleasure to use. It holds a great deal of ink too. Here's a snap of it dismantled - obviously the photo was made before I installed the sac.

A new Frankenpen.
I was rather impressed by this attractive Sheaffer Balance (c.1930) that I received the other day. With its tipless huge Lifetime nib and crack at the barrel threads it is perhaps not the greatest of all finds! Nevertheless I like the obvious quality of the pen and its attractive pattern, plus as the name suggests it does feel good in the hand.
I had one nib that would fit: a lovely Osmia Supra bi-colour nib from a a derelict 884 I have.

My birthday present to myself;
a Twisbi Mini gold. Inked with Bungu Box Blue Sapphire. The fine nib does a good job.

A Wing Sung 601 vacumatic. I like it when its writing, but it's showing unwelcome signs of being a drier-outer. My own fault for breaking my own rule by not waiting for v.1.2
Cob, don't be silly, you can never have too many Frankenpens!

A bit of a rarity I believe: a Sheaffer (Australia) Snorkel with a full-flex Triumph nib:
This is a dip test as I have to rebuild the pen (aarrgghh!)

These arrived in today's mail.
A Kaweco ICE Sport in red with M nib, case and mini ballpoint.
A new green barrel and section for a formerly burgundy Parker 45 that made a trip through the laundry sometime back. (before and after) The nib is a 14k EF.
