    Hi,

this is my finest stub and my oldest pen.
A pre-1907 Mabie Todd & Bard Swan 3003 eyedropper with "short nib, fine" as it was called those times.
And when they said fine, a very fine nib was meant:
This one gives 0.28 to 0.30mm lines vertically and 0.21mm horizontally on paper. Some flex, too.

Some serious flex/line variation going on there. There's nothing like vintage flex. Well scored.

    Thanks, Blue Note,

indeed those tiny eyedropper nibs are fascinating, be they stubs or long ones. :-)

There was talk about the Parker Jotter on another site. I do remember these pens and decided to get one. After gaining some information I decided I wanted one with brass threads and the Parker logo on the acuator.

Some Parker gel refills in black have been ordered.

Hol up... You can get gel refills for Jotters?!

I remember my dad always carried an old ballpoint jotter. I vaguely recall being impressed by it. I'd love to get one in gel pen as a fallback when I can't write in permanent FP.

Last week I just bought the same Parker 180 pen and I was just interested in that nib.
It reminded me of a vintage pen with an over and underfeeding. But I have no idea if it is just like the Vintage pen I am referring to. ??

    So many amazing vintage pens.

This TWSBI Vac 700R (fine) just joined my collection. I haven't inked it up yet.

Finally replaced the diaphragm in this 1947 Vacumatic (part of a pair I bought recently; the blue pen is in the queue). Loaded with Quink Black and it is writing nicely.

And I pulled the trigger on a brass-thread Jotter and stuck a black gel pen refill in it. Not bad, actually.

Nice Jotter. I use the gel refills by Parker. I gave the one I found last week to my eldest. A fellow was selling a stainless with gold clip he/she called a Jotter for $12. It is acutally a cap actuated 45.

Chuck--you're the reason I got this Jotter and the gel refill, ya know so thanks for posting about them. I bought the Parker gel refills too. I won't likely use it for day to day stuff but if I need to sign something official or write on a modern postcard I should be good to go.

Detman: thanks; of the colors, Golden Pearl is by far my favorite. They way the celluloid plays in the light when you rotate it is hypnotizing. I have another Vac in this color but it has cap fitment issues and the nib isn't fine enough for me so I had to find a replacement.

    Dear Azkid,

gratulations on that beauty in Golden Pearl!
You make me want one... yes, xf at best for me, too. ;-)

    Enjoy and stay well

Found a Jotter I liked but didn't know of the threads were brass so I asked. It was and now it's one the way...LOL!!

For those of you who are a fan of Masterpiece Theater and the Endeavor series, the main character uses a Jotter to complete his cross word puzzels.

Ah, DS Morse. I absolutely love the Endeavour series. They are brilliantly done.
In Season 7, I think it was the first episode when a killer was identified by his fountain pen writing by Detective Morse.

I received a 1970's-era Pilot pen with a 14kt gold nib yesterday. Pink barrel, metal cap. The cap isn't in superb condition, but it's okay. It's just got a bit of pitting and corrosion.

And I realized last night that I have a problem. I had just gotten a pen from JetPens a couple of days ago, and realized that they ship out of the greater San Jose, CA area. Nothing amiss in that, right? Well, what is amiss is my thought: "Oh, good! If I ever have a fountain pen emergency and need something quickly, I can order it from JetPens!" A fountain pen emergency????!?! Yeah.

It's a tradition in certain circles in the UK (and the United States) to work crossword puzzles in ink, never in (gasp!) pencil. It's pretty much confined to people who think for a living, like police detectives and intelligence service personnel. I don't work my crossword puzzles with a fountain pen, because there would be so much bleed-through on newsprint. But I do use a gel pen. I was once in military intelligence. The crossword (a newspaper one, not a cheapie book of easy puzzles) was one way to tell the enlisted from the officers. The enlisteds worked crossword puzzles and did so in ink. The officers scratched their heads in amazement and sometimes admitted they could get a word or two, but never the whole puzzle.

But the idea of working a crossword puzzle in pencil? Perish the thought!
