Looking forward to pictures when it arrives!
Me too - some of my favourite pens
They are incomparable, in my opinion. My OMAS Extra Lucens (Dunn-filling 556/f predecessor) is vaguely close in it's relatively delicate section and huge, glorious nib. But the Soennecken sections are perfectly contoured for short-term comfort and the metal in the filler gives them a pleasant backweight. (In back-to-back trials, I have found its contemporary MB 146 to be more comfortable for long writing, but I have just sold the one I recently got because the aesthetics of the pen never grow on me.)

Hehehe... nope, the only pens with me over there were a couple I brought along.

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to capture this pen, but not to drag out things, here's a start. This is a Leonardo Officina Italiana Golden Rule (named for the Jonathon Brooks material, I believe) in the Momento Zero Grande size. 14k #8 Jowo nib in Fine. The pen is large at 150mm capped, but well balanced unposted, with a comfortable grip. Piston fill, currently inked with Diamine Red Dragon. As with most of JB's acrylics, there is a great degree of depth to the material, which I'll try to capture at some point.

The story I alluded to was that the pen was originally an edition of 100 pens, and included a red ebonite feed. I got in at the end, and was informed they had sold out but were going to produce a second run. Only a couple months later (Italy was dealing with a lot of COVID issues) it came up that the 2nd batch was not to be either numbered or have that red feed and I mini-freaked, as I think it is integral to pairing with the body. After a couple days of asking around, my retailer told me he had sourced an extra red feed and ensure it was on the pen. It was. Marco at Casa della Stilografica deserves kudos on this one, and when the pen arrived in great packing, I can say I am completely satisfied. Aesthetics in pens can be very personal and not all would like this one, but it hits all my spots and I am happy.

Gorgeous!!! I keep looking at these pens, they really are beautiful…just couldn’t see spending $200 for a steel nib, especially when the reviews are iffy. Many are glowing, but I’ve read more than a few that say the steel nibs aren’t that great. If I get one, going to go for the gold nib.

Makes me feel a little silly to mention my new replacement nib for my Pilot Decimo. The Decimo was one of the first pens I bought, and I got a bad nib, with dry upstrokes, and poor ink flow. I should have sent it back. Cleaning it helped a little, but but there were still issues. I tried working on it with a piece of Mylar. I got the ink flowing, but the nib became more like a medium and it was never really pleasurable to write with. I used it at work, since I didn’t really love it and figured if I dropped it or it was stolen, I wouldn’t be too upset. Last week, I dropped it…and as we all know, dropped pens always land tip/nib down.

Finally bought a replacement nib, fine. After writing with the bad one for so long, I am amazed at how nice the new nib is!!

Indeed! They are somewhat tricky to find, especially if you're looking for a useable (i.e minimally-degraded) example of the brighter patterns.

I'd settle for a black Präsident or Rheingold in BB.

Luckily the 111 I've found appears to have a broad nib!

While I like Soennecken pens in general, the ones I am constantly looking for their 5XX models, which are piston fillers with flat ends. And as you said, the brighter-colored patterns are difficult to source.

And having worked on a few of these, I am still amazed with how their piston filler system was designed and built.

Their other models with rounded ends somehow do not captivate me as much.

I recently got to handle a 510 like this one...very nicely built pen and a captivating pattern...just wish the nibs were larger.

Two rubbishy wood pens in a rubbishy wooden box. a very common sight at sales.

Fortunately I gave it a second look. Waterman 52 1/2 V in red mottled ebonite and beautiful condition. And flexy, once I got it home.
Plus a rubbish pen and a rubbish box.

I should have credited your photo which I used as an example. Your photography always seems to capture the best of any given pen and reveal its design so clearly.

My newest is a Parker Duofold Centennial from ca. 1990:

...not that I was looking for this one, but the offer was too good. I almost forgot how well made these pens are. No injection molding, all done on the lathe with perfect precision. I find that very impressive.

I don't tend to impulse buy and this is a bit outside of the definition anyway. However, there must be a category of "this is a very good item for a deal that will vanish if you don't take it!"... which is just maybe "fancy impulse" at the end of the day!

Anyway, here's a sweet little pastel Estie duo with an original case (which Esterbrook referred to as a "Petite-Pak") that I saw pop up on eBay yesterday morning, costing me the princely sum of $14.99 plus nominal shipping. I would have been a fool to scroll past that. (photos from eBay listing)

I think this set is just delicious Jon - I especially love the old ink caught in the threads - which just talks about the pen's history - not least because it echos the colours in the case. Brilliant find
