I'm new on this forum and I think this is actually my first post.

I recently ordered a Parker 21 fountain pen from Amazon. At least I thought I did, but when I reviewed the order this morning, it was for a Frontier FP. I did a quick search online and found the Frontier had a few cases of leaking.

I cancelled the order and ordered a Jotter FP. It's on order, I should receive in in a week or so...

The Frontier is actually pretty good value, or at least the older ones were good, I have one in front of me and it works just fine, never leaks. I didnt really think that there is much difference in quality and performance between either Frontier or the Jotter, you should be fine.

When it arrives perhaps you can come back and tell us your thoughts, the Jotter isnt a pen that gets a lot of coverage.

Exhausted from a lot of driving and a long weekend at the LA Pen Show, so the real pics of the two pens will wait til I can do them. *However*, I had a wonderful moment at the show: my dear friend Marta T-Q and I with Sarj Minhas, both of us purchasing newly released "Sarj 'One-Man Pen Show' Minhas" pens! Beautiful new piston-fillers by Leonardo, with Sarj's iconic image in three places on the pen. Full photos will come later, but this is a great memory item to keep and use and I had to share.

I'm just guessing at this, but probably only from Sarj himself at a pen show. They aren't being marketed or sold by Leonardo, and Sarj doesn't run an online site or anything.

This holder was created by Edward of ChicObliques in collaboration with Calligrapher Erica McPhee (theflourishforum.com).

The following is a direct quote from Edward's website (link is given afterwards).

Erica McPhee, a lettering and design artist with over 35 years of calligraphy experience, first contacted me in August of 2017 with an idea for a pen based on the vintage Ransomerian pen holder. While researching old engrosser script and copperplate manuals she came across a penman by the name of Charlton V. Howe. Howe was a well respected penman of his era who had a preference for the triangular shape of the pen holder stating:

“Personally, I do not think the average oblique holder is well adapted to script writing unless the top side is flattened so the forefinger can rest upon both the holder and the tin at the same time, thus overcoming the tendency to grip or turn. The triangular oblique holder is well-adapted to engrossing script.”

Erica was intrigued by this statement and wanted to see if a triangular shaped pen would indeed give better control for pointed pen calligraphy so she contacted me about making a prototype. I was a bit skeptical as I had tried ergonomic pen holders before and they didn't feel right to me ( although I know there are lots of people who love them and swear by them! ). But for me - I liked the simple round pens.

As I learned more about the shape from Erica, who sent me photographs of a paperclay model and rough sketches for a prototype, I began to think there may be something to it. After all, the great Madarasz flattened the top of his holders. It was a bit of a trial and error when it came to the overall design. We didn't want a straight triangular shape and we didn't want the intricacies of an ergonomic holder as we really wanted it to be as close as possible to a traditional pen. The only thing which was 100% nonnegotiable was the triangular element.

After designing several prototypes, I created a holder which had the elements of both a standard (for want of a better word) and triangular holder. It is a curvilateral shape - a somewhat triangular shape but with rounded edges for better comfort, a flat top, and a shallow bottom. On using the pen it felt a little strange at first, but I quickly found it incredibly comfortable to hold. The flat area on top of the pen feels fantastic when executing shades and the pen sits in the hand at exactly the same position every time.

All that was left to do was to name it - Erica came up with the combination of elements from both our names which also describe the pen and the Curv-E pen was born!

At the time I purchased this wonderful holder, Edward was the only maker that I was aware of who was creating this Ransomerian inspired shape. I strongly encourage any budding calligraphers out there to have a look at his website. The prices are good, the holders are superb. A Hammered silver pen from The Silver Factory in Birmingham, England.

OK it has a steel nib & plastic section, but to my untutored eye the silverwork compares well with the other firm based in the same city (YoL), and it was a lot less expensive. I like the oversized hallmark as a design feature.

This is definitely a grail pen for me: a Pelikan M700 Toledo with a delicious 18c medium PF nib. Although the pen was advertised as being from 1996 I believe it to be from 1990 as the knob is identified as W.-Germany. I love the nib on this pen!

This is from an advertisement for a similar pen: Pelikan M700 debuted in 1986. In the earlier days, M700 Toledos were engraved by 3 artists (initials CT, EH and JB). Among the three, CT is the earliest engraver (and the most creative one in my opinion) and he has long retired. This is one of the earlier art pieces made by CT.

If we were to count swappage, that thus created a "new" combination and changed what the pen is. I would have to say it would be this :

Going from a Pastel Green Sheaffer Snorkel Valiant, to a becoiming a Statesman, and a Grey Sheaffer Snorkel Statesman, Becoming a Valiant. I wanted the 14K gold nib, preferably the EF I like the most from the desk pen that's broken), to match the aesthetics of the grey pen along with the gold snorkel tube, since it matches the trims and cap/clip better. And I am more likely to be keeping a 1st year, than the pastel green.





Though it was a tiny bit of work to swap because the nib units and sections were not the same, the first year having a thinner collar band on the pen, and later models having a thicker one, and can't just unscrew and swap, so had to break down the dried up ink on the PdAg unit, just to be able to unscrew it off that unit, swap em, re-adjust the snorkel tube on both (replaced the snorkel tube on the green one with one from my broken desk pen because capillary action wasn't working too well on it's tube).

So yea... sort of new-to-me now, but working all well with what I want. lol.
