Not for those who like fast pace films.

It reminded me of Local Hero and the films of Elia Suleiman.
Yep, I thought it was him too, until I checked the credits....

Jar, studios don't make movies for individuals, but for masses. They bend into a twist to enter big markets of despots. ...
I haven't seen the latest Dune, but the director is quite well known over here, and doesn't shy from controversial projects.
As for the latest Star Wars, they are cash cows for Disney.
Hollywood loves sequels/ rehashing. Though it's not inherent to them. It's human nature.....

As I said in the initial post, it should make lots of money.

It still, like the Star Wars and Tolkien rehash, suck!

Having read the trilogy several times, I liked the Lord of the Rings, partly because I lived in New Zealand and recognised the locations.

Saw the first one at the Olympic Theatre in Newmarket, Auckland, a packed house.

@Chip, I didn't mind it. I didn't love it. But it was better, in quality than the new Star Trek movies. While some of the scenes were more realistic, they had completely lost the philosophy of Roddenberry. It's just an action packed forgettable piece of junk.

It seems that movies have gone to extremes, either extreme violence, or extreme schmaltz. Nothing in between...

Saw the first Star Wars. That was enough for me.

Just watched Midnight in Paris (2011), written and directed by Woody Allen, with a pleasantly light touch.

A time-travel comedy, lots of fun for those who know a bit about the art and lit of the 1920s.

@Chip saw it when it came out... really fun.. one of his best.
I saw a new French film, on Netflix, DNA.
While it had its moments of best family driven neurotics..I found it missed it mark.

On the other hand while getting rid of some old VHS, I came upon a recorded copy of Les Orgeuilleux with Michèle Morgan and Gerard Philipe...
Superb B&W photography, acting and atmosphere.
Plus it has a lengthy fountain pen scene on the plus side...

From your location and the films you like, I'd guess you're a Francophone.

    Bonjour hi!

Watched a doco that was a welcome contrast to all the war news.

The Singing Revolution treats the recent history of Estonia, including occupations by both Soviets and Nazis, and details their non-violent disengagement and reappearance as an independent nation on the breakup of the USSR.

Tried to watch the AppleTv perversion titled Foundation.

A total waste of about 20 minutes.

I will certainly admit that both of the films you mentioned are ones I've repeatedly enjoyed. I own a copy on Marnie so I need to watch it again. Just watched Spirited again a couple weeks ago.

Miyazaki has said he has a new film due out soon.

I like a nice aperitif when I have rising wind.

I just watched the 1939 Yiddish movie "Tevye". It was phenomenal.... it makes "Fiddler on the Roof" seem like a joke.
