A silent Japanese film from 1934, "A Story of Floating Weeds". Wonderfully acted and filmed. Very touching. The director remade it as a color talkie 25 years later (I haven't watched the remake yet).

A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument.
M: An argument isn't just contradiction.
    A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
    A: No it isn't.
M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction.
A: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'No it isn't.'
    A: Yes it is!
    M: No it isn't!

It is a great film worthy of its reputation. So well-directed and one witty, quotable line after another. There are some films that I can't understand a person of a certain age not liking. Casablanca is one of them.

Suspicion, another Hitchcock entry. 1940-somethin'. Joan Fontaine, Cary Grant, Nigel Bruce, but I did not care for it.

Yes, it was Joel's last show. Objectively, it probably isn't the best as many of the jokes used during the film are really obvious or easy ones about Joe Don Baker's weight. I guess I'm just a sucker for that stuff.

Manos lacks believability, unlike Plan 9.

Well, I think there was an article in Sight and Sound from about 10 or 12 years ago debating that very point. I could go either way on it, I guess.

Unlike the odious Suspicion, Rebecca, by the same director, was mesmerizing. I read the book AND saw a British TV production and they still got me. George Sanders and whoever played Danvers stole the film from under the noses of Fontaine and Olivier.

That's a gorgeously shot movie. The remake was quite awful. George Sanders was good in almost anything, remember Shere Khan 🐅 ?

I need to rewatch Suspicion; describing it as "odious" seems excessive.
