We seem to be in a cycle of Good Movie, followed by Bad Movie.

Forgot to mention: before Dead Reckoning came The Unseen, 1945, a trashy remake, err, copy, err, whatever, of The Uninvited. It's like The Bowery Boys meet Dark Shadows, without so much as Leo Gorcey or a vampire to liven up this confusing mess in which no one does anything logical nor shows any thespian chops. And RAYMOND CHANDLER was credited as one of the screenwriters. The shame.

1938's "Paradise for Three" (sometimes called "Romance for Three") starring Frank Morgan, Robert Young, Mary Astor, and many character actors. A lot of fun!

With Vincent Price, Gene Tierney, and Jessica Tandy, the 1946 film Dragonwyck held a lot of promise, but turned into a confused mess. What happened to the daughter? Why wasn't the hinted-at supernatural element developed? Who murdered whom? And Joseph L. Mankiewicz directed many of my favorite films, such as All About Eve, A Letter To Three Wives… sad disappointment for us.

And how weak the dialog for Diane Keaton was.

I didn't like it, much when I was younger, but seeing it now, I appreciated even more. Have to admit, it reminded a tad of Great Dictator, thematically. It's a pity these films are still so relevant nowadays

What do you get when you give Roger Corman a big budget, and Vincent Price? 1960's The Fall of the House of Usher, which, like its title 'character,' starts out well enough but collapses toward the end.

Yes, I'm on a Vincent Price kick now.

Fanchon the Cricket 1915 Mary Pickford. Purportedly her favorite film, and lost as its the only film when the three siblings act together (her sister Lottie and her brother Jack.

Film was found in 2012 at the Cinémathèque française, restored, retitled with the Brits and Italians and help from the Pickford foundation.
It's an interesting film for film buffs only.

It's a pity that all this trouble has gone to restore the film and then they have chosen some amateur musician with no understanding of film music, with the most atrocious "modern" sound track.
In the end, I just turned off the sound and put Mendelssohn's 6th string quartet which made the experience more pleasurable.

As the film is loosely based on George Sand's, La Petite Fadette the music worked quite fine. They could have hired one of the few silent movie pianists. Those guys are amazing, then can create music on the fly

Today's feature: You might think that a film containing both Vincent Price and George Sanders (and I have his fountain pen!) would be awesome.

Sadly, in the case of the 1940 rendition of The House of the Seven Gables (and I visited the site!), you'd be mistaken. But if you enjoy a dull, flaccid mishmash of The Wrongly Accused, Time Wasted, and Embezzlement, this is the film for you.

"Adam's Rib" with Tracy & Hepburn (and plenty of others). Ok battle of the sexes in the legal realm. Written specifically for Hepburn and Tracy by Ruth Gordon (the actress) and her husband.

What do you get when Roger Corman and a minor MGM exec tie one on at a dive bar?

“Hey! Let's take one of those copyright-free Poe things or other and turn it into a TV sitcom! With Vincent Price, who hasn't sold a painting in the last fifteen minutes, Peter Lorre, and this guy Jack Nicklaus—-”

“Nicholson.”

“Right, Nicholson, who ain't goin' nowhere so he works cheap!”

“Great idea! That means we can afford Karloff!”

I groaned all the way through 1963's The Raven.

But against my better judgment, I also, once or twice, laughed. Because you get a trio of canny old veterans trying to upstage one another. And, being MGM, they also stole every Buster Keaton gag in the book.
