I’ve been watching a series of short multi part documentaries about brent fikowski and pat vellner on YouTube called All In and All In Too (and 3)
Both are world renowned crossfitters from Canada.
Neither of them takes themselves too seriously so the documentaries are light hearted and funny.
I watch while i row on my concept2 indoor rower (usually 20km a day or so)
First one starts here if you are interested:

I find watching fit people do fit people things is good motivation while rowing.

We watched The Sea Beast, a 2022 animated feature. I wasn't keen on the director's previous film, Moana, which made a hash of Polynesian myth. But I liked the new one a lot.
The animation was brilliant, with a layered approach: photorealistic landscapes, detailed buildings and objects (ships), engaging caricatures, and cartoonish monsters. For instance, in the poster above, the water could be a photo, the boat is realistic, the two characters are less so, and the two beasts (big red one and the tiny blue one) look like the sea life in Finding Nemo.
Perhaps the thinking was that to render the beasts with the same realism as the landscapes and objects would make them too scary for young kids, limiting the potential audience. In any event, it works. The plot is loosely based on Moby Dick, with a political slant. The dialogue is snappy, with plenty of wit.
I like anime, being a fan of Miyazaki's work. Herself isn't as keen, but we both enjoyed this one.
When I searched for reviews, there were references to a 1926 silent film titled The Sea Beast, which was drawn (with Hollywood touches) from Melville's Moby Dick.

Thank you for mentioning that delightful film that brought back fond memories of a couple of weeks in and around Westport County Mayo.
Every leap year my Mother, God rest her, mentioned Sadie Hawkins Day (February 29) the day it was acceptable for women to ask men out on a date.
Here's a photo I made on Ektachrome slide film at the base of Croagh Patrick made on Reek Sunday.reek Sunday.jpg

We had a grand time in Mayo with a stay on Achill Island.
Westport is a fine old town and Clew Bay is known as the haunt of the Pirate Queen, Grace O'Malley (Gráinne Ní Mháille), who sailed to London in 1593 to negotiate a truce with Queen Elizabeth.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_O%27Malley
Her stronghold, Carrickahowley Castle, a tower house on the sea, was surrounded by the flooded glacial basin of Clew Bay, a complex of moraines, drumlins, eskers, potholes, and other complex features which made navigation hazardous without detailed local knowledge, lending her a natural defence against attacks by rival clans and the British Navy.

We enjoyed a Netflix series, The English Game, set in the time when soccer football was changing from a sport for public school old boys to a popular pursuit for the working class, with paid teams.
Written by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey), it's beautifully photographed, with engaging characters.
It’s been a while since we went to the actual movies. Last movie we saw in the theater was Elvis.

The 1935 rom-com "Hands across the Table" was very good.
I didn't care for the Italian movie "Fists in Pockets". It was well acted and written but not my cup of hot beverage.

Tár. I thought the casting and performances were great and the screenplay was brilliant, taking on quite a few issues such as identity politics, artistic talent vs. snobbery, the assumption of privilege as a license for bad behavior, et several ceterae. But the aggregate, although provocative, was not very enjoyable as a film. Herself disliked it heaps.

The 1930 German film "The Blue Angel". I can't believe it took me so many years to watch this classic. 👍

After the shooting at the Lafayette Grand Cinema, I don't go to theaters anymore. But I do watch films on Netflix and on DVD. Recently watched White Noise with Adam Driver. I read the book for a class years ago, and remembered very little of it, so I can't compare the film to the book. I think I liked the film, but I just have the feeling the book was better.
