1949's "Obsession", aka "The Hidden Room". Excellent!

A British comedy, "The Horse's Mouth". Quirky and silly but still quite good.

"The Old Maid" from 1939. Damn, Bette Davis was a great actress...

Wasn't she? One of the best. No wonder her nickname was the 5th Warner brother

We've been working our way through the films of Billy Wilder. Just watched Sunset Boulevard. Seemed to be a bit of Hitchcock in the mix.

Saw an interview with Wilder. I didn't know that German was his first language and that he also spoke fluent French.

1942's "All through the Night" with a bucket full of great actors (Humphrey Bogart, Peter Lorre, Conrad Veidt, William Demarest,....). It seemed like an upscale Bowery Boys movie.

One of the greatest directors ever. His Apartment is also very good. After that he goes a bit downhill...

It's the story of Austrian Franz Jägerstätter, a conscientious objector, who refuses to fight for the Nazis in World War II.
While there are aspects of the character a bit fanatical and frankly idiotic, the film has a spiritual arc, but most fall each frame is shot like a painting and the transition between German and English is seamless...

    Highly recommend....

Never Let Me Go, adapted from a novel by Kazuo Ishiguro. Can you imagine a dystopian tale with no CG imagery or special effects?

This takes place on the human scale, in an inhumane society ruled by an economic caste system and the desire to survive, no matter what the price.

    Marvelous cast, excellent direction.

"El Vampiro Negro" - a fantastic Argentinian version of the story in "M" (child killer) fun a different perspective. Worth seeking out. 👍👍

"High Flyers" with Woolsey & Wheeler, Margaret Dumont, Lupe Velez,.... Not very good, but worth seeing if you're a fan of W&W.

"King in New York" - a Charlie Chaplin movie. It got very good reviews, but I didn't think highly of it. The level of humor and the level of the drama (like many later Chaplin films, it contained both) were dated for a mid-1950s film.

I thought MV was cute... not great but still an enjoyable black comedy. IMHO, KiNY lacked in humor, writing, and acting.

    The Grey Man.

I hereby vow never to watch another film about an ex-CIA agent (or the CIA in general) that subordinates the actors to improbable plots, gunfire, blood, gore, mayhem, explosions, and more collateral casualties than the average war.
