I found it riveting but depressing... shocking in the prevalence of blind belief in today's USA.

Tonight I watched Last Night in Soho. I'm still trying to decide whether I liked it. I did like the soundtrack.

Nope, a sci-fi, horror western by Jordan Peele.
A muti-genre spoof, not for the analytical viewer. But I thought it was fun.

"Don't Bother to Knock" (1952) - Low budget noir which was the first dramatic lead for Marilyn Monroe. Anne Bancroft's first role, and she sang. Despite the low budget, it turned into quite an engaging thrill ride.

A rom-com titled Leap Year, which refers to an alleged Irish custom that on Feb. 29, women may propose marriage to men. The plot was flimsy and contrived, but the leads (Amy Adams and Matthew Goode) were charming.
Having spent time in the west of Ireland, my head was fair spinning by the geographic leaps and bounds (and related crazy stuff). For example, Adams is desperate to get to Dublin by the 29th, but her plane is diverted to Cardiff, Wales and the storm has grounded all flights and stopped the ferries from running. So— she hires a wee fishing boat to take her across the Irish Sea. (Having ridden in a similar one, I'd reckon you'd not care to be in a wee tub like that in a storm.)
In a brilliant fit of navigation, the skipper steers away from Dublin, rounds the south of Ireland, and drops her off on the far west coast (it was claimed) on the Dingle Peninsula. For reasons known only to himself, he neglects to reach port and refuel, dumping her on a bare beachfront rather than on the pier in the town harbour.
In any event, she straggles up to the only pub (as if there weren't fair dozens of pubs and inns thereabouts.) She hires the dashing but skeptical innkeeper (Goode) to drive her to Dublin. They set off and like a shot, they reach the Lochs of Connemara, 200 k to the north on twisty roads and not on the way to Dublin by any sane reckoning.
Thence, a mad swerve southwards to Tipperary, also rather out of the way for Dublin. After a breathy contretemps, she dashes out and stands on a seacliff by a ruined stone fort, on the Aran feckin' Islands. And so forth.
Suspending disbelief, I enjoyed it as a hapless fantasy. However, I do not recommend that any Irish person, nor anyone with much knowledge of Ireland, take it on, as you might require several strong drinks and perhaps do damage to the furnishings.

With David Crosby's recent death, I was glad to see the interview clips in this film about the Laurel Canyon/LA music scene, 1965-67.
Jakob Dylan did a good job as frontman, but the live concert that tried to recreate the songs was underwhelming.

I’m about to start Pez Outlaw on Netflix, and I suspect it’ll have some bearing on collecting fountain pens or collecting anything else. It’s about Pez candy dispensers selling for far more than they should, which (like Montblanc and fakes) attracts outlaws.

Tonight we circled back to watch the feature-debut of Martin McDonagh, "In Bruges".

That's how I remembered it, so I picked up a copy on Blu-ray and it didn't disappoint.
Lloyd, you post so many films that look like they would be wonderful to see. What is your source? Is there a particularly good, "classic" streaming service, or do you have any other suggestions for widening out our content choices?

I overspend on cable just to get Turner Classic Movies. I like their announcers who give a lot of good background info, the variety, and the occasional newly discovered.
Being that you're in California, are there any revival film houses in your region?

Thanks, Lloyd. I've thought about TCM in the past, and I think I can bundle it into my existing (overpriced) cable service. As to the other, sadly, no. Possibly in LA but that is - at best - a 2 hour drive and would be just crazy. We only recently lost our last little 1-screen arthouse cinema, The Ken, a community fixture pre-dating my days in college. I spent so many nights there on films both good and bad. Time moves on, sadly.
Thanks for the tip on TCM.

1951's intense noir "Highway 301". Based on a true crime spree from 1934. Quite graphic for the era.👍

Not a movie, per se, but a celebration of movies --- and those who create them.
At this point, I'd rather watch James Cagney receive an award than watch most actors doing their best roles.
