I think we have the first 'Earnest' somewhere....

We've been watching the Peter Lorre Mr. Moto series. Eight of them, and we're up to # four. The first two were very enjoyable and based at least loosely on the Marquand books. The third tried to turn Moto into Sherlock Holmes, but surrounded by half-witted students, police, and mobsters. Still entertaining, sort of.

More Mr. Moto! Mr. Moto Takes A Chance (with real-life spy gal Rochelle Hudson), and the more serious Mysterious Mr. Moto. These films are only about an hour, and Lorre is always a treat to watch.

"Wait Until Dark" (1967) and "Odds Against Tomorrow" (1959) were exciting, tense flicks.

Final two Mr. Moto movies. 1938's Mysterious Mr. Moto had an actual script written by an actual novelist, plus the inimitable Erik Rhodes, stock player in so many Fred and Ginger films, AND likely the highest body count in the series. Finally, Mr. Moto Takes a Vacation, which isn't actually one. Lionel Atwill's in it too.

Tried to watch Barefoot Contessa, got bored mid point.
Watched Moby Dick. The language/ dialogue is too delicious to convert to film. Plus Gregory Peck was miscast in my not so humble opinion

We saw Barefoot Contessa. Kind of icky storyline, but Bogart and Gardner are both worth watching.

Then we went to Lady of Burlesque, 1943, with Barbara Stanwyck. Bad copy, good fun.

And following that, a Mae West trilogy of Night After Night, 1932 (frenetic and silly, but West's notable screen debut), with George Raft, She Done Him Wrong, 1933, and I'm No Angel, 1933. The latter two feature Cary Grant, considerably more polished in Angel than Wrong.

I watched a film on Netflix: Frybread Face and Me. I really enjoyed it. It was about two Navajo kids visiting with their grandmother one summer.

"Experiment in Terror" from 1962. Good thrill ride.

Began our Garbo-fest with 1939's Ninotchka, an amusing comedy also containing Bela Lugosi. Then, onto Grand Hotel, 1932, which in addition to Garbo, also contains just about everyone you ever heard of, and not one but TWO Barrymores.
