Default One last major pen purchase?

I've been selling off quite a lot of pens lately I'm looking to get one bigger pen purchase which would be the last for a good while.

    Criteria I have at the moment;
    - Budget £150-250
    - Europian brand
    - Cartridge converter
    - Gold nib
    - Something a bit different. I don't particularly want a run of the mill M series Pelikan
    - Moderately sized a bit larger than Parker Sonnet but not a lot.
    - Used or new
    - Would rather a metal pen but I would be fine with a plastic one
    - I don't care for flex

Any suggestions would be welcome I was initially thinking a used Duofold international in a more interesting finish but I'm open to more suggestions

As I was reading through your requirements I started to think Parker Duofold Centennial. Then I got to the end and you mentioned Parker Duofold International. That was close!

You could potentially get a Montblanc Meisterstuck 145 on ebay for that sort of a price. Smaller than a Centennial. I would have suggested a Lamy 2000 steel but that's a piston filler. Nice though, and comfortable to write with.

A bit left field but my Bexley "America the Beautiful" comes with an 18ct nib, and that's a C/C filler. Difficult to find those, especially if you're on ebay UK. There are occasionally reasonable Stipula pens to be had as well. Harder to get them with gold nibs for the price you're looking for.

I will keep thinking while everyone else posts.

I think I've gone through my "a bit different" pen options now.

Is this finish on a Duofold International interesting enough?

Have a look at John Twiss pens - delightful pens and a delightful chap as well. You might just squeeze a gold nib in under your top budget level.

Sheaffer Targa with a gold nib? You may get a sterling silver version in your budget.

Duofold international would be a good choice, I have one with an oblique nib and it's a fabulous pen. Blue marble finish if you are curious.

I do want to try a Targa perhaps buying lower end steel nibbed one might be a good place start and then try one of the high end ones.

In any event, if it's going to be major and actually your last, pick one that you've tried and loved and not one you've only seen and lusted.

I say last in the respect that interest such pens occur for myself cyclically every few years. I've got most of the pens I want at the moment I wouldn't mind pushing the envelope out a bit further as I've got a milestone coming up. Whilst I could go for one of the more interesting Sonnet such as fire dance or moonbeam. I'd rather try something new.

Go for It! Well worth a look at the FG Thomas website, a pen shop in Sheffield. I have met Gary at a few pen shows. He is a Sheaffer expert, good selection of pens for sale and a decent chap. No affiliation etc, just a happy customer.

A sudden thought - maybe a Cross Townsend in sterling silver, although they do other finishes too. I have a couple and the nibs are excellent- a very underrated pen IMHO

You may have already decided, but I have been reading a lot about the new Pineider La Grande Bellezza fountain pens. Brian Goulet did a video with Dante Delvecchio and it really looks interesting. https://blog.gouletpens.com/2018/03/...xpert-pineider

Yeah Townsend might be another way to go. Probably would be worth scouting eBay for a used steel nibbed one before looking a gold nibbed one to at least to give it a go.

I've not quite decided yet. I think I'm going to probably go down the used route so it probably will take a bit longer to decide. I'll check it out.
