Default What's Going on With FPN?

I've been inactive on FPN for a very long time, just went back and couldn't remember my password. Tried recovery, but the Captcha was broken. Tried creating a new account, but the Captcha was broken. I didn't see any way to let admins know without having to log in first. It also looks like they have paid tiers for accounts now, I don't recall that from before. Anyway, the site seems completely broken. I'm getting the feeling that it's not what it used to be, what's up with that?

I sent them an email just before I signed up here. They never responded.

I've found FPN admins to be pretty slow to respond, but that's okay I guess for a volunteer type outfit that is trying to monetize with advertising. They eventually will respond. I find great quality feedback here on FPGeeks, just not as many folks are active here. If you can parse through the many for sale posts, you can find some good stuff. And I've never had issues with malware, etc from here like I've experienced over on FPN.

I find that browsing FPN with an ad blocker, despite their complaining, makes their site load considerably faster and has the added benefit of blocking a lot of potential malware vectors.

Sadly, the site is almost unusable without an ad blocker.

    Phone version. No ads.
Don't know whether this works if you have an account but it does if you don't have one.

Also my experience. Adblock+ and ublock and Adblock.

    No issues at all.

All I need now is a blocker to get rid of anyone's post that is boring, pompous, repetitive or annoying.

But then it would be a very short read.

You almost make me curious enough to visit there with my ad blocker turned off. Not quite, though.

If I understand how ads would generate revenue for them, I don't think that having my adblocker on makes a difference, as I would not intentionally click on an ad in any case. I could donate, but choose not to, although there is still some good information there.

Anyway, I have nothing against them. I recall that there was a "what the heck is FPG?" thread there some time ago; probably more than once. Some people took the sensible attitude that one can take whatever is good from a site and ignore the rest.

Their ads have been recently acting a lot worse, as Farmboy tried to point out.
I really wouldn't visit that site without an ad-blocker.

I've recently started using FPN in a Private Window due to their ads making it really difficult to use their site, but no ad-blocker yet.

I'm surprised you got past the capture ads and that you didn't win a 1000 gift card from Target.

I've been using AdBlock Ultimate for several months on my MacBook Pro and am totally satisfied. To date (according to AdBlock) I've been spared from over 193,000 ads. I run a similar ad blocker on my iPad.

Chrissy, I run two (probably a bit overkill, but whatever). I use uBlock Origins (blocks ads) and Disconnect (used to stop ad trackers). Both of which are free and work well. I forget that YouTube has ads until I watch something on my phone.

A quick check at FPN shows that uBlock Origins caught 34 ads and Disconnect grabbed another 7 (5 ads and 2 google tracks).

FWIW, FPGeeks shows one Google tracker on Disconnect.

It all depends on what browser you use. If you use Safari, I can't help you much as I haven't used that on my Mac in ages.

If you use Firefox or Chrome, uBlock Origin is what I'd recommend. You can get it from their various add-on menus. They work in Firefox or Chrome no matter what OS is used under the cover.

I'm using ABP with Chrome browser on my Macbook. Typically it is catching 30+ intrusions whenever I visit.

Thank you. Maybe I should have said I'm using Safari.

ABP is probably still the way to go though
