Today: Esterbrook LJ*. I installed a new sac over the weekend.
You may notice something does not look quite right here. I am experimenting with using a new Mazurka Pens steel 'F' nib I had laying around.

The original 1551 is slightly longer but the new nib is snug enough. So far so good.

    * mistakenly wrote SJ confusing this with two other Esties I got in a lot.

Oh no!! Desecrating an Estie!! (It probably wanted a 9xxx nib instead!) Good luck, though.

Heh. Yeah it did/does want a 9xxx. Experiment failed was worth a go but am back to 2556 nib. Should work better with Pelikan vs Iroshizuku. I think I will go switch now in fact...

Edit: yup, Pelikan did it's magic again. This will be another nice daily user.

Last day: used the Parker 45 again briefly but mostly using the black Esterbrook LJ with 2556 nib for the last couple days. It's a nice writer and just the right line thickness for me.

Ah.....Nothing beats the moment when you find a nib "just the right line thickness" in a pen that feels just right to the hand and arm. No matter what the price or age or "apparent" quality. One of the great things about Esties. "Buy one pen and three points! It's like buying three pens!"

Well, it's the last day of May, and I think I'll write a couple of letters and flush some of these out.
If you're enjoying yourselves though, there's nothing keeping you from making a Vintage Pens in June thread...

Vintage pens, as it turns out, are a perfectly usable and enjoyable writing option (but we already knew that, didn't we?).

Great thread. Didn't entirely work out as planned: I started the month with 5 vintage pens and ended the month with double that many! Of course I had lots of fun along the way.

I think I'll do this again this year. Not sure what the May lineup will be. There will surely be some overlap as I don't have hundreds of vintage pens. but I have a new Pelikan 400nn and a Typ I just ordered from rosspens.com, so those will be two of them.

Anyone else for a May Vintage Pen Month?

I will also join! Since most of my pens are vintage I'll probably won't notice the difference.

I'm up for this! I have a few already inked I'd like to use more, and a few I've been meaning to ink but haven't worked out what to put in them yet.

Intriguing, but since many of my pens are task-specific, as a practical matter I don’t think I could get around using newer pens.

For a challenge I might even try to use only vintage Pelikans. I have several 400s, a 100, 100N and a couple of 120s, so let's see how I do!

I have the same old pens I had last year, plus a Pilot Super 150V and a Senator Regent, both of which happen to be filled on my desk at the moment.

I’m going to take a shot at this. I’m not willing to ink a vintage pen in red, so I’ll have to continue to use a modern pen for that.

    Here’s my lineup:

    From top to bottom:

    Aurora 88P
    Sheaffer Snorkel
    Waterman C/C
    Waterman Executive
    Montblanc 149
    Pelikan 400nn (not pictured)

I've been getting some of mine ready. But I have a Dinkie I wanted to use that needs a new sac, and I am having no luck at all getting the section off... the teeny tiny size is not helping my grip! Oh well. I'm getting it out, warming it at my laptop's fan outlet (it is right there!), getting out my bits of rubber to grip with, giving myself sore thumbs and putting it away again until the next day.

I'm planning to ink just a few at once and write them empty before doing the next.

I suggest rather more heat than that. A hair dryer would be better.
