    Question What are those nibs?

    G’day ladies and gentlemen!

    So - my friend was going through her parent’s old stuff, and happened to find couple of mystery nibs (?). I mean, I seen hybrid nibs before – along with a healthy dose of marketing idiocy, but as far as I recall those were steel nibs saddled in gold, not this weird amalgamation! (See pictures!) Also these look a lot older.

    Any idea what those weird things came off of? Would be kind of cool to know what to look for!
    I fully expect this to be a well studied thing, not a "mystery", but well - more the reason to ask folk in the know, right?

    Cheers!

    This could be either Japanese or Chinese nibs. I could not see the Kanji above clearly but it look to mean Bright Light and 50% Gold in Japanese. It look similar to the nib from Pilot Elabo so it could some custom nib made from that nib.

    Whatever the actual manufacture, they are patterned after the original version of the Sheaffer "Triumph" tubular nib. An excellent source of info would be this Triumph article at Jim Mamoulides' PenHero site.

    "When Men differ in Opinion, both Sides ought equally to have the Advantage of being heard by the Publick;
    and that when Truth and Error have fair Play, the former is always an overmatch for the latter."

    Wing Sung used conical nibs on some of their pens.
