Default Parker pen repair - scratches?

    Hello

I am the owner of a couple of Parker pens that look similar to this:

They've got a few scratches in the barrel from wear and tear which I would very much like to get off.

I have watched a couple youtube videos on repairs, but they mainly deal with plastic pens, and I've also read good and bad reviews about the same products.
Some of the video links here:

So, given my pen is made out of metal, and the fact I would like to attempt to fix the scratches at home, what would you recommend?

When I visited Karas Kustoms shop, they used green dish scrubbing pads to give a pen the brushed metal look. The pen barrels were in a chuck that spinned whiles the person just moved the scouring pad over the barrel.

That's worked for me in the past. Any light abrasive like wire wool or a higher grit sandpaper e.g. 4000 grit would do.

what would you recommend for a final polish after I've removed the scratches?

I don't think they ever had a final smooth polish. I've had several steel Parker 45 pens, and the newest ones don't feel smooth. They feel quite rough across the pen. When I've had used ones that have been polished smooth, you can tell the difference.

I Google searched for this topic and looked in my repair manual. Now when I get very smooth, polished pens, I carefully use sandpaper around the pens to make the lines like newer pens have, and hide the scratches, and even carefully go underneath the cap. That way I've managed to get older, smoother pens to have the horizontal and slightly roughened "lines" like they started out with.

I believe some of the matte finish pens are 'scratch buffed' and others are media blasted to obtain the finished product.
