Default Need help finding pen case

I am looking for new pen case to take back and forth to work. I have this cheapy I got off of eBay. I like that it's compact and fits in my laptop bag. But I don't like the string that wraps around to hold it closed.

I want something that is about this size, has a different type of closure and won't break the bank. Preferably something under $40.

I have one like yours and find it works well. I have a even received compliments on it. I paid $3.75.

I picked up a couple of 12 pen zipper cases on Ebay for about $6 each. Look like leather. Pretty nice. I have used them for un inked pens. Right now they are sitting empty. Like this one:

I'd second the 12-pen zip case, I've got one, too. Quite handy, with one caveat: if it ends up having a metal zipper, you need to be careful putting the pens in and out of the case, as it can be easy to drag the pen across the metal teeth of the exposed zipper. You might try inserting/removing the pens towards the center fold, but it can be a bit awkward. However, with your price constraint, this is certainly a good choice.

Certain leathers (depending on how they were tanned and finished) will eat through metal plating.

Be very careful who you buy leather from. Don't ask me how I know.

I had one of these before I got the above case and it doesn't lay flat. I want something that lays flat.

You can't (unless the seller says) but one good guess is that:

    1. If the case is lined with something else probably okie
    2. Pen case is made by fellow pen nerd.
    3. If the case is made by a company that sells pens that doesn't what a shit-ton of warranty claims also probably okie

So Pilot cases, Franklin-Christoph cases, Visconti, MB, Omas, are probably all likely fine for example.

I bought a bunch of sexy looking local made pen leather sleeves and they ate the living fuck out of my plating in a hurry.

I have a Pilot Pensemble and Pilot Somes cases that are great. Some Franklin-Christoph cases that seem somewhat rough on the inside but so far seem to be fine and I am one billion percent sure they would not sell agressive plate eating leather.

I have a ton of Levenger sleaves that are also very good and have done nothing but lovingly caress my pens for years.

People who know shit about leather can chime in but I think it depends on how the leather is tanned.

    How about this:
    https://www.cultpens.com/i/q/LL44787...-slim-pen-case
pretty much a fabric equivalent of what you have. Could probably do with a few slots made on a sewing machine but it shouldn't be a huge job.

I'd never use a case like that (or the OP's case, for that matter) for one reason: when closed, the clips are rubbing together. That is a total deal-breaker for me. The entire point of a case is to protect the pens from wear and tear.

Since you like the case, maybe ask MY63 to alter the closure. See his thread: https://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread.php/4940-Pen-cases

I'm a big fan of Nock's cases, such as the Brasstown: https://nockco.com/cases/brasstown

You can order them from other sites too, like Goulet Pens, Jet Pens, etc.

Anyone using here the Lihit booktype pen cases? How are they for a daily carry? At the moment I have my fountain pens in a metal pen case, but I guess that is not optimal for carrying around in a backpack....

I'd suggest doing a PH test - you can buy test strips on ebay. If a leather is neutral PH, it should be safe. I think it's very unlikely that any leather carries a metal eating enzyme, so it sounds like some tanning agents or finishes leave acidity behind. Or possibly strong alkalinity, but that's probably less likely.

When I saw the title for this thread, I thought I would suggest looking under your bed (that's where 2/3 of my missing pen paraphernalia ends up after it falls off my desk and gets kicked), but then I realized you weren't looking for a misplaced pen case. Sorry, my bad.

I have found that some pens (my Guider Capsule) don't fit my zippered case so I have to move everything to my pen roll if I want to take it with me. So don't toss it. Especially if you have larger pens. My Guider is 158 mm long capped. A Pelikan M1000 is only 147 mm long capped.

okay so I feel like I have to ask this ...do none of you sew ? do none of your wives and girlfriends sew ? because I make my own fabric pen roll ups from fat quarters and if you don't know what fat quarters are just ask wal mart has them also . I also look on you tube for patterns . Just a heads up and also it is about 1/4 of the cost .

I do indeed sew, am a sometime tailor.

I have two patterns for fabric pen cases like the ones I placed in an auction here to benefit the forum: https://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread...t=wrap+auction

Making some pen cases is something that is on my to-do list. I have piles of fabric, sewing machine, either bungee cord or buttons to use for different types of closures... just not always the time!

It is also on my list to make a roll up pen carrier. I was going to just wing it but maybe I should look for patterns. I am very unskilled at sewing but if I can make a pillow I can make a pen case.
