    Default Identify this ~1969 Pen?

I'm a Questar telescope collector, and wonder if the pen used as a size comparison on this 1969 catalog is of any notability, or unknown junk? If it's identifiable and of any merit I'll seek one out to accent my telescope collection. I don't know if it's fountain or ballpoint. Thanks for your help.

Whoa...! You'll be paying $$ for that Parker 51 vac 61 because the cap is rather rare. Here is some information: Parker 61

I used to drool over those Questar ads, made in New Hope when it was an artist colony on the Delaware River, and in the '60s my high-school buddies and I went to hang out and tried to stay out of trouble.

Thanks for the alert. The fletching on the arrow was undetectable before, but is now apparent. With no experience in pen collecting, I presume that one seeking to recreate something like this would focus on the cap, regardless of color, then find teh right color body? Or is splitting things up blasphemy? Or was this cap with two-tone stripes a likely a special edition that came in one color? I can't tell from the photo if that's black or navy.

I'm unable to find this "golden arches" p[attern at

Advice as I begin my search? Estimated cost? Best places to look (starting with Ebay). I presume "parker 51 two tone" are my keywords.

I wonder if this topic should move to the Parker area or WTB?

I think we have it! It's the "Black with Heirloom pink and green gold cap (1956—1967)" seen in the second photo from last, second from top.

Here's one - not sure about condition - I'd pay for premium.

A beauty. Top of the line at the time, I believe. (I have a 61 Classic.)

Things to watch out for in 61 listings: less sturdy plastics than the 51, clogged capillary filler, missing arrow on the section.

It turns out that I've been chasing the wrong color. After looking through my Questar catalog archives, I confirmed that all 1969 and later catalogs had the black-barreled pen on the cover. But since seeing the turquoise version, it's been nagging at me that I've seen that color depicted. Sure enough looking though older (1964) catalogs found the identical image but with the turquoise version in an inside photo. Apparently, the art director must have decided that the turquoise just didn't look right with the scope, and simply blacked out the barrel. Incidentally, I bought a "mint, new old stock" on Ebay today for $200.

    Here's the original:

I also found a 1960 version that is a different photo of a different (earlier model) scope with a different Parker pen. Any idea what this one is? It will be harder to identify.

Thanks for the very helpful advice. This has been a pleasurable pursuit.
