    Default 3D printed pen rack

I've been wanting to have a better, safer storage place for my pens. Here is my 3D printed pen rack that holds five pens from mini to large.

The rods are machined on my micro lathe. So not 100% 3D print but a minor redesign could be done to accommodate printed crossmembers.

As I see more 3D-printed products, I wonder how good the result could be if these plastic materials undergo some kind of lacquering technique.

Interesting idea. Some finishing is possible for sure. It would be interesting just to see if one could sand and polish to a nice shine.

I have a 3D printer in my classroom. I had my students design and print something of interest to them. One student hand makes fountain pens and sells them. So he printed a great pen display rack for when he sells them. This looks like a part of it. Very impressive!

And, yes, you can finish off 3D printed objects quite well with sanding and something like Bondo. And then lacquer and paint it. That's the next step in my 3D printing adventure.

Very cool, thanks. That reminds me, I was wondering about 3d printing pen parts. I may have to try that.

When I get a minute I will try to remember to post the files to thingiverse.

    Thanks and good to know!

Your pen rack is looking really nice. It kind of remind me of the rack they used to store katana in Japan or how Taccia show theirs pens on the website.

Thanks! I did take a tiny bit of inspiration from that, actually, as well as a few designs I found here and there.

I think if you put on wood grain paint coat and some weathering, the rack will become even more beautiful

0.5mm vs 0.7mm graphite sizes is much like 9mm vs 45acp...they both work if you know what you are doing. - me
