Default Ink Review: Diamine Apple Glory

Today I'm reviewing Diamine Apple Glory ink.

Diamine Apple Glory is a nicely saturated, bright green, dye based ink that leans slightly more towards the blue range of the spectrum than the yellow range. It’s a summery, bright, grassy green colour and is from Diamine Inks standard range. It makes a change from all of the dark green wintry inks that many of us love.

Diamine Apple Glory leans slightly less blue that Diamine Ultra Green and is a very similar colour to J.Herbin Lierre Sauvage, but is more saturated. Kaweco Palm Green and the old discontinued Caran d’Ache Colours of the Earth Amazon are also very similar colours.

    • Flow Rate: Very good. Felt quite wet in the pen & paper combinations I used.
    • Lubrication: Good - It felt smooth across the page in the pens I used.
    • Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
    • Start-up: Immediate.
    • Saturation: Saturated ink
    • Shading Potential: Some shading seen with F and M nibs.
    • Sheen: None seen.
    • Show-Through:
      • Royal recycled
      • Oxford Paper
      • Field Notes
      • Tomoe River 52gsm
      • Generic 80gsm lined pads

    • Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Not seen, even on Field Notes.
    • Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not seen, even after over 1 week in the pen
    • Staining (pen): Not seen after several days in the pen - easy clean-up with water.
    • Staining (hands): Easy clean-up with bar soap.
    • Clogging: Not seen. Seems unlikely.
    • Water resistance: Not sold as waterproof and has no water resistance.
    • Availability: Available from Diamine Inks web-site and many other outlets.

Thanks Chrissy. Far too bright for me. Where did I put my sunglasses? I can see it being a useful addition for those who like painting with ink, but I'll stick with my Sherwood Green and Teal for writing with.

Maybe this bottle should come with a free pack of Migraleve

I like green inks, but never find a use for them. Thanks for the review.

This is the only ink I have given away. It looks nice on the screen but on paper for me, it did not suit me. The person I gave it to is a Twsbi user who can also draw with a fountain pen.

You're welcome. Surely there are some users who like bright green inks.

You're welcome. I must admit I don't use bright green inks all that often.

I much prefer to see this ink on white paper, and when I wrote with my Lamy B nib, it looked like it was writing a broader line than it usually does. The problem might have been I had just cleaned it out though.

    Chrissy, great review as usual
How does this compare to Diamine Woodland Green?

Diamine Woodland Green is a darker green and leans more blue than Apple Glory and Ultra Green. It was one I considered as a comparison ink, but was in a different range. That review needs updating. On my "to do" list.

I've also reviewed Kelly Green I would say that Kelly Green leans slightly more yellow and is brighter while Apple Green is more of a green grass colour.

    Thank you so much.
Form photos it seems that Apple Glory looks much fresher and greener...
