Has this one been mentioned? (I didn't see it, apologies if I missed it...)

    "When Men differ in Opinion, both Sides ought equally to have the Advantage of being heard by the Publick;
and that when Truth and Error have fair Play, the former is always an overmatch for the latter."

Thank you for sharing a photo of the knife, to be honest I have never seen a knife like this shape. We used to sharpen pencils with an ordinary kitchen knife when I was a kid - but it's not convenient. I would love to try this method!

I do a lot of graphite drawing, and occasionally use color pencils. I have tried many, many sharpeners, I love the KUM brand. They are just humble little handheld sharpeners, but I find they work great for my needs. There are several versions, including a long point. They last longer than most handheld ones, and do the job to perfection. Easy to find at most art supply sites, or on Amazon.

Thanks for sharing! By the way, I saw that KUM sharpeners are also very affordable. I will definitely give them a try!

It simply needs a full restoration by a specialist.

I don't know, I'm afraid any restoration would spoil it's historic value.

Is that a desk mounted sharpener for a 2mm clutch pencil / lead holder? Is a similar machine manufactured today? I want!

the sharpener is not desk mounted, but it is meant for these pencils. it's called Gedess and still available.

I picked up a Staedtler 502 and it doesn't work for my 925 35-20 or my Rotring rapidpro because the knurled sections are too wide.

I found this https://www.deltaart.ca/product/00/0...e-Lead-Pointer at the same shop, but I cannot find any reviews of it. Does anyone know anything about it, and whether it would accommodate lead holders with larger diameter sections?

Bakelite...DUX....made in W.Germany..............so is nowhere near as old as I had thought.
The top is an 8 with two sizes of sharpener.
    6 1/2cm/@ 2 1/2" high; 5cm/2" wide.
I have a few pencils here and there, but don't use them. So I do have a classic two finger pinch one somewhere ...like the old bloke carries in his back pack........just in case.

Oh, It's so cute and unique. I love cute designs like that too. I buy a lot of cute pencil sharpeners but mainly for decoration.

It looks like a woodcarving tool, a chip-carving or detail knife. The handle is shaped to fit the palm, for control.

One reason for choosing mechanical pencils over clutch pencils is because I was always forgetting to sharpen the clutch using the in build sharpener and writing with a blunt stick of lead ain't fun or useful. With mechanicals I can get a nice line without ever having to sharpen at all. It is a win for me at least.

Do you forget to sharpen wood cased pencils?

Yessir, that is one of the reasons why I don't really use them apart from as a curiosity. That and I am heavy handed and break them easily.
