    Question Prosperity Upon the Land?

A youtube video inspired me to provoke a contrast between the 1950 U.S. and today. Looks pretty brutal...

Americans often use the 1950s as a benchmark for their lifestyle expectations, especially regarding prosperity. These folks seemingly forget that much of the rest of the world had laid waste to itself shortly beforehand. Infrastructure in Europe and Asia had suffered tremendous damage during World War II. There had also been millions of casualties. The U.S. had suffered virtually no infrastructure damage, and fewer casualties than many other nations. It took over a decade for the rest of the world to get even close to normal.

Using the 1950s as the gold standard for prosperity is misleading, and will lead to disappointment. The 1950s were a uniquely prosperous decade for the U.S., and the result of temporary setbacks in the rest of the world.
