Default Parker 51 "Nassau Green" identification?

I have an unrestored Parker 51 double jeweled Vacumatic which I would like to confirm if it's the famous "Nassau Green" or not. The pen has a gold cap that inscribed: 1/10 16K Gold Filled USA and the body is inscribed: Parker "51" Made in USA and it has the following date code: .4.

    What do you think?

Can you take two more photographs.

One in natural light against a white background.

The other with a flash inside, same background.

    It is either :

Nassau Green ( Parker colour code 98 )

    or

Blue Cedar ( Parker colour code 02 )

Sorry for the awful iPhone pictures but this is the best I could do:

Looks green to me. Just don't know if it's the "Nassau Green"...

Thank you! Next stop should be a reputable pen restorer to put the pen back into action.

Is it a particularly rare finish?

Apparently harder to find than a Plum 51. But then again I'm not an expert on Parker pens.

There are three harder to find colors in the Vacumatic filled 51s. Those are Yellowstone (aka Mustard), Nassau Green, and Buckskin Beige. Roughly harder to find in that order though clean undamaged Yellowstone pens can be hard to find. These are considered the double jewel only colors though single jewel examples of all three turn up with Yellowstone by far the most common single jewel color of the three. True first year examples of these three colors are also exceedingly hard to find and the colors will vary from the later production pens.

Short answer with respect to, 'Is a Nassau green DJ 51 rare?'; lets go with less common.

Most wise words from Farmboy, very accurate and most eloquently put too.

I find it interesting how collectors describe degrees of rarity.

Most American’s go with SOLER’s scale

    Common
    Less common
    Uncommon
    Rare
    Extremely rare

In the circles I mix with, most scale pens

    Common
    Quite rare
    Rare
    Near Unique ( only 20 – 25 ever made )

For what it is worth, I would consider carlos.q ‘s P51 Nassau Green as quite rare.

Whilst I appreciate this is another’s post.

Perhaps I can be cheeky and add an addendum as rarity was mentioned.

Rarity has always been very subjective, it not merely about production figures
I was never convinced they mean that much at all.

I would add a caveat about rarity mentioned previously.

Over the last 12 years I have bought every pre 1980’s NOS Boxed Parker I have seen.

    Now have alot of them.

Got a NOS Boxed 1964 P61 Heirloom ( Newhaven ), paid what I thought was alot , then was offered an insane amount for it and sold it.
It is odd when you collect very rare pens, but there is always a price at which you will sell. It provides money to buy other pens you want.

Never got the one pen I always wanted.
The rarest pen I have ever encountered.
A Parker 80 Harlequin Gold Shield – a German collector would not part with it………..still working on him.
Had all the others – red green blue et al
Unusually for me collecting these protoypes, I decide a long time ago I would only collect production pens.
Just have a weak spot for Harlequins, they were the first pens I ever collected.

Rarity never equates to the value in the eye of the buyer ( collector ).
