Default Hello from Isle of Wight UK

    Hello!
I've just come across this forum after googling Parker mini duofolds. It is comforting to know there are people out there with greater pen addictions than me

I don't really do much writing these days, but when I do I much prefer to use fountain pens. I enjoy the whole experience, from how they look and feel to how they write and I definitely write a little neater with them than ballpoints.

I still have my first pen from the 1960s which is a very pretty little Conway Stewart with my name engraved on it. I think the nib is a little worse for wear and I suspect the inner has perished. It has a lever on the side. I haven't tried to use it in a long time.

I also have some old Parkers, a Waterman and a couple of Sheaffers, but I use one of my two mini duofolds on a daily basis.

I can see there is a wealth of information on here which I shall enjoy perusing.

0.5mm vs 0.7mm graphite sizes is much like 9mm vs 45acp...they both work if you know what you are doing. - me

Welcome aboard. There's several helpful people here who'll help you get your old pens back in fine fettle and full working order (as well as probably tempt you into trying several others ) There's lots of info to be found on here, but if you can't find what you're looking for, just shout up. Whatever the question, someone here will know an answer or three.

Hello Bebop. With UK sources you'll find here, your vintage Conway Stewart will write again. Surely it needs a new sac (in the meantime, do NOT force its lever)!

I've walked the Isle of Wight coast more than once, from Sandown to Blackgang, one time waking up in my sleeping bag in the front garden of a stately home near Niton. Oh, the things we did in college years.

Well thank you for such a lovely warm welcome! I can see you are from all over the world. How fantastic.

I will have to google Vulfix and Simpsons too! Probably the Isle of Wight is most famous for its sailing during Cowes Week when people travel here from all over the world.

The world is a small place! I attend the camera club in Niton. It's not far from me (well nowhere is too far here!). There are some very large houses there from Victorian times.

It hadn't occurred to me that I could get my little Conway Stewart fixed up. I'm sure it would need a new sac, but I fear the nib has been damaged. It felt very scratchy the last time I tried it years ago.

I look forward to learning more, though I don't really want to buy more pens... or do I?

    Hello and welcome.

All I remember about the Isle of Wight is, the rather bumpy train ride.

There's only one rail line now, unless you include the steam one
Our roads are very bumpy - lots of potholes!! We always notice them when we come home from the mainland.

    Hello and Welcome.

I think that there are a lot of old cars in IOW, despite the best efforts of the pot holes.
