    An old DIXIE pen:

FP Historians who like odd brands such as PenHero or Phillip Munson, have quite a bit of info on this brand (online, even). But I bet you not a lot of pen people you know would recognize this brand. Or they would classify this as "third tier" and dismiss it outright (a mindset that I find myself at the opposite end of).

The fact is, I really like this handsome pen. A big and solid (5-1/4 inches capped) old pen that withstand restoration admirably, and those knurled ends that reminds me of my Gold Bonds pens.

Here's a photo of the barrel engraving:

Kraker made these, As always, nice quality. Along with "Dixie", Kraker made the very similar "Yankee" pens. Wonder if there was a marketing strategy in the regional distribution of these brands.

Has anyone mentioned Celtric? There's one offered in Ebay at the moment. Lovely pen. Splendid chasing.

It was a "related sponsored item" under a pen I'm bidding on.

A Greif piston filler from Germany. Beautiful jade-marble-like celluloid on the cap distinguish this pen from other brands. Excellent condition plus an interesting, flexy, flexy nib.

Making this ... ready? A Good Greif.

I have a Greif too. These are cool pens!

The Greif Company has been taken over by Pelikan in the 1950's.

The pencil is interesting too since it has a window to controll the lead reserve:

It crossed my mind that Christof may have a few
The neat thing also, is the green band is located in different parts of the pen depending on the model.

And those pencils are just innovative!

    Ever heard of Grieshaber Pen?

    Well, now you've seen one:

Why is the Aikin Lambert on the top? Because I just happened to write it first, and I like how it came out
The nib is Aikin Lambert, by the way.
And that little ball on the clip, is a replacement, long story.

    A Lifelong pen.

No, seriously, that's what the name of the pen really is...

Le Merle Blanc was part of Mabie Todd's export drive beginning in the mid-twenties and it was aimed at Belgium, France and Switzerland. This MHR vest pocket pen was part of the earliest range. Later pens were in marbled celluloid.

At 11.2cm capped but with the girth of a full-size pen, this was a neat and convenient note-taker for the man on the move. I expect that there would also have been a a ring-top.

I understand that the export pens had 18ct nibs. If that is so, this 14ct Blackbird nib is a replacement but it isn't entirely inappropriate as the Merle Blanc was based on the Blackbird.

The barrel imprint explains it all: Le Merle Blanc Made by "Swan" Pen People Fabrique en Angleterre. This handsome little pen is very uncommon nowadays, especially in mottled hard rubber.

The White Blackbird? Nope. It doesn't make any sense to me either.

I picked up this Cascade pen because the color scheme is identical to two Moore pens, except that the base color on those are red and blue, respectively, whereas this pen is green; all have silver and red bands. This is actually one of the best quality 2nd tier pens I've come across, with only slightly less refined hardware. It even sports a spotless visualated section. I'm posting one of the auction pics because I won't have time to take decent shots for a while, but it came in today and looked at least as good as I hoped. Dedicated to Will Gunadi.

Beautiful celluloid. I see several references to Cascade on the web but nothing about who made them. They seem to have been around for quite a while, producing a hooded nib pen later.
