Default Questions about nib unit compatibility

    Hello Pelikan experts,

I just bought a Rotring Renaissance pen that is compatible with Pelikan M120 nib units. I figured I can maybe try some interesting vintage Pelikan nibs in it.

According to Richard Binder's Pelikan nib compatibility chart, the following nib units should be compatible: M100, MC120, M120, M150, M101N, M2xx, M4xx, M6xx.

Is that so in your experience?

Looking at the illustration at Richard Binder's page, M2xx/M4xx nibs are a little longer than M100/M120/M150. Did you ever have any issues fitting them into the M1xx pens?

Any experience specifically with Pelikan-compatible Rotring pens?

    Thanks!

No issues swapping between M2XX and M100. I also put the M100 black nib in a vintage M140 without issues. I think the M750 Toledo might also fit in the M100 but I have only put it in my M200.

If the pen you have is comparable with the 120 nib you may not be able to use any higher numbered nibs. You can't put an m200 or above nib in a Pelikan 120/140. In general as the number gets higher the nib gets larger/longer. So smaller nibs in bigger pens works, but not the other way around.

Not exactly true in all cases. If you want a gold nib in an m200, the only way to get it is to use an m400 nib or as in my case, I purchased a m750 Toledo nib for my m200. It fits perfectly with no issues.

    KrazyIvan, Driften
Thank you for the replies. Since the pen in question is not a Pelikan, I'll stick to M1xx-series nibs in the beginning. When I venture into M2xx/4xx/6xx, I'll start with an affordable steel nib to test the waters

Some reform nibs also work in Rotrings but it is going to be trial and error.
