    Default Replacing nib and feed

I recently purchased a vintage pen (Conklin Endura) on eBay that needed a nib replacement. I used a knock out block for the first time, to remove the nib and feed, and have ordered a new nib. Is there a trick to get the feed and nib to fit back into the section? It seems like it will be a tight fit, do i need to use heat or lubrication?

You might need to warm the section in order to get the nib and feed back in. Presumably like you warmed it before you knocked-out the nib and feed.

You should also ensure you replace the nib in the same position where it was originally. Hopefully you'll be able to work out where this was or you can shine a light in there to see the original position of the nib.

The only possible lubrication I would be tempted to use would be a tiny amount of dishwashing soap, maybe in some warm water. This will have the effect of lubricating the section enough to get the nib and feed back in, but will easily wash out before you put the pen back together.

I wouldn't recommend any silicone grease for lubrication as it will get onto the feed and mess up the ink flow through the feed.

What is the purpose of replacing the nib in the exact position as it was previously?

Because on an old pen the section make have warped very slightly, and that might be the only place the nib and feed will fit back in properly without splitting the section.
On FPN Ron Zorn always says you have to replace the nib in the position where it originally came out from.
