    Default New FP enthusiasts

I’ve always had a fascination with fountain pens but never did anything about it. I am starting this hobby to create something my 4 boys and I can do to collect and restore together. My first purchase was a Eberhard Faber pen that needs a new nib but I can’t seem to find any nibs online for it. If anyone knows where to find one or what a good substitute would be I would appreciate your input. It’s a beautiful pen other than the nib being broken. Look forward to learning more and bringing back a classic writing utensil.

    Welcome to the forum!
0.5mm vs 0.7mm graphite sizes is much like 9mm vs 45acp...they both work if you know what you are doing. - me

When it comes to vintage pens, you have the option to find a gold 14K nib and install it on the E. Faber. Look for Wearever Deluxe or Venus that has 14K gold nib, just make sure that the nib doesn't say GOLD PLATED. It should just say 14K that's it.

    Welcome!

If it is an E. Faber with the orange and black flat ends, I have three such pens and have replaced nibs on two so far.

I've successfully used a Knox #5 on one and a "genius iridium" #5 from AliExpress on another. I haven't finished resaccing the third yet.

I'd love to hear what works out for you. I have an irrational affection for these flat top pens.

Another great type of pen to restore are Esterbrook J, LJ and SJ pens which you can get at a reasonable price with patience on eBay.

It is easy to find NOS replacement nibs for a fair price if you are patient. Esterbrook designed the pens to accept screw in replacement nibs and made a gazillion, apparently. The non tipped 1xxx and 2xxx are typically worn badly and cannot be salvaged but the 9xxx iridium tipped nibs might be ok or at least salvageable.

great hobby to share with your kids. you do not have to spend very much money to get acclimated and it will also help your kids enhance their writing skills. most important it gives them something old skool to do, less expensive than all this hi-tech garbage out there which makes us all lazy

Allo! As new member I find it crass to advertise/post commercial links....Personal , for relatives, etc. Wish y'all offenders to post within confines of pens, nibs, stationery, etc
My favorite pen is Pilot 823 (F) Most excellent, never hard start, never dry, etc. very very smooth....Aesthetically not quite in Arco range, but for all EDC uses & not on a stand to be admired, it is a joy.......
