Default Auroar Mare Flow Problem Redux

I apologize for the double posting. I posted this in the Italian pen section, but really should have posted it here.

I have a beautiful Aurora Mare I bought new. I has a wonderful 18K gold fine nib and writes superbly. It developed a flow problem in the past. I would fill it with Aurora Blue ink and it would write fine until the ink in the nib and feed went dry. I could twist the piston cap to force more ink to the nib/feed and the cycle would repeat. I sent it to Pentiques in 2013 and the problem seemed fixed for a short while but reappeared. I set the pen aside and recently cleaned and tried it again. No miracle occurred during the hiatus and the same problem is still there.

Any DIY tips for getting this to flow properly? I don't mind sending it out again if somebody has a recommendation, but if there is a solution for a home fix, I am up for giving it a try.

    Thanks for any feedback.

    Hi, Icy Swan,

Have you tried flushing it with a little soapy water, or have you tried other inks? Maybe it's the ink that is too dry for the pen.

Aurora nibs easily unscrew, so you should be able to flush it with pen flush without much trouble. I would have hoped that Aurora ink should be perfect in one of their pens, but trying a different ink might give you the flow and lubrication that you are looking for.

Otherwise, Dan Smith is the man for fixing flow problems in Aurora pens is he not?

Lady O, I have flushed and cleaned several times but will try again. Just bought a brand new bottle of Aurora ink. The existing bottle is not very old, but I will try it with "fresh" ink [I live in Fairbanks, Alaska so who knows how long the ink was in the store]. It that doesn't work, I will try other inks as suggested by you and Chrissy.

Chrissy, who is Dan Smith and how do I contact him? I see a the pen going on holiday again in the near future.

    Regards and thanks.

Dan Smith is "Dannzeman" on FPG but you might know him better as The Nibsmith

Chrissy, thanks. Good link. It looks like he is not taking new work at the moment, but I will keep checking.
