Default Will try to get to the range today.

I'm hoping to get to the local shooting range today and try to annoy some paper. First a run by the local grocery store to pick up this weeks food (read kitty food first, human food if I must) and then over to Shooter's Alley. Usually I make sure to do at least two sessions every week and at least half of each session with whatever I will be carrying that week. Today it will be my 30+ year old Colt Detective Special that's this weeks carry handgun and possibly an East German Makarov scheduled for next week or my 1968 Smith & Wesson Highway Patrolman anomaly.

It's been a couple decades or so since I bought a handgun so when I was at the range last week shooting my Dan Wesson Patriot Target 1911 and the range boss mentioned what such guns sell for these days I was shocked. But the same thing happened about a year ago when I replaced my 12 year old Dodge Stratus R/T; prices sure have changed while I wasn't watching.

I haven't been in many months. I really need to make a trip. It is about time to sight in for hunting anyway so might as well hit the pistol range that's right next to the rifle range.

I have a problem child RIA 1911 officer size that has been waiting a very long time to be tested with a new, high end magazine. If not it goes to the gunsmith or I offload the damn thing. I seem to collect broken stuff and never get around to fixing it all...

Sounds like a nice sidearm you have. They don't ever seem to get any cheaper do they??

No, they don’t. One of the few things that only goes up in price and value. The gun stores are a different story. I know they are in business to make money but...they get my blood boiling when they offer someone next to nothing for there stuff. And I will leave it at that...Dad said if you don’t have something good to say, don’t say anything.

Looking for Caran d'Ache Type 55 2mm set and Rotation .7 pencils.

Hey, jar - if I may ask, what ammo do you use with the Detective Special in carry mode? I don't carry mine (a wee tad on the heavy/bulky side) but keep it loaded at home with Hornady Custom 158 gr XTP. I also have - and sometimes carry - a Ruger LCR in .38, which is rated for +P, and I have that one loaded with Hornady Critical Defense ammo.

Whatever I happen to have in ammo. Long, long ago and in a land far far away I paid attention to all the marketing but for the last couple decades I've pretty much decided "what was on sale" is what I carry. When I carry the Detective Special (or other wheel guns) I always carry a couple speed loaders just for balance.

I usually open carry so size really is not a big issue and even the DS usually is in a thumb-break belt holster but I think that's mostly because open carry has been legal in most of the places I lived (including California; it was only in 1967 under Governor Ronald Reagan that carrying a loaded handgun in California became illegal). I'll wear a cover shirt if I'm going to be going into a 30.07 store or somewhere that objects to open carry. I don't see any issue at least considering other folks feelings but I wish open carry was ubiquitous as it was when I was growing up. People need to see that the majority of those who carry guns are not a threat and are just the same people they were when the gun was hidden and no one but the Shadow knew they were armed.

I carry the Hornady Critical Defense and their Duty ammo in my S&W model 649. Most ammo made today is very good ammo compared to stuff made in the 60-90’s.

Back when I lived in Georgia a bunch of us from Georgia/Florida often met at a range outside Jax. It had a nice handgun range as well as great bunkered rifle ranges. Blew up many a 2 liter bottle over there.

I too keep Hornady Critical Defense in my pistols. No idea if it's worth the money though. No point in using it for target practice aside from being familiar with how it shoots. I have no desire to ever actually have to use it for personal defense.

This week, we acquired some land with a huge berm outside of town. Already rigging up some targets and something to hold gear while we shoot our everyday carry's.

Jar's right about the sticker shock: I had to sell my MB Solitaire just to cover the cost of my little Sig P238. All in all a good trade, though.

That was one of the handguns I was actually looking at but then I realized it wouldn't do anything my Sig P230 hasn't been doing flawlessly since the mid 90s.

Berms are nice and shooting tables really nicer and shade even nicerer and ...

Fingers sore. Just loaded up a dozen or so moon clips with 45acps so my 1917s and New Service can get some play time. Gotta get me one of the HKS moon clip loaders.

Nope. It's a Joe Pardue. The one above with the red scales is a Randall Gilbreath. And my beater that is always around is one of my Greenaways.

Very nice...I’m liking your Greenaway that is fully damascus blade, bolster and scales. Joe is great also. Enjoy.

I know the Sig P238 is a well loved gun, but despite the price, I'd still buy an FN FiveSeven (and a Glock in 45ACP)... if such choices were possible on my little island.

I know how everybody who shoots smokeless is gonna laugh at my little ol' peashooter, but I just don't trust the gummint, and I'll be d____ed if I'm gonna give them a 4473. I can't think of a better way to say, here I am, come send a SWAT team after me if I don't voluntarily turn in my guns when the next Democrat or RINO becomes president. This is a picture of the same type of revolver as one of the guns I have, a Colt Navy 1851 replica, .36 cal. It's a stock photo; the pictures I took of mine were on my old, unbacked up laptop when its hard drive crashed, and I haven't taken any new ones yet. (And yes, I learned my lesson and now back up everything). I have a purty holster for it too. And mine has the same squareback London-style trigger guard, but it's silver-plated, along with the strap and other hardware. Can't tell if the one in this photo is, but it might be.
