The more kids we have the fewer ‘needs’ we seem to have. Our next kid will be lucky to have clothes for a couple years.

That’s very true. My hats off to all the parents who are doing what they can with what they have.

We raised three kids on one income. The kids need came first, wants second and us last, but it was worth it. Both their mother and I had been latch key children. We ,knew how much of a difference it makes in a child's life to come home to a kiss and a cuddle instead of an empty house, and the sacrifices we willingly made were well worth it.

Great looking slide rule there! And a K&E no less. My collection is up to around 30 different K&E’s. Some Post’s, and others. I have my very first one that I got back in Puerto Rico, when my dad was stationed at Ramey AFB.

Ukiyo-e...so, you like or collect the prints or do you do the whole process, ie woodblocking, printing etc.
I write poems based on the prints. Do you know what ekphrasis is? I often write poems based on other works of art (you can see some of them online at the Louisiana Poetry Project under Denise M. Rogers). I'd love to have an original woodblock print, but alas, I do not have the funds for that.

Ekphrasis, no, I never heard of that style of poetry before. I am more familiar with haiku. I like the haiku because it is shorter and to the point. They make great 3 minute read and reflect.
The Ukiyo-e I am familiar with because in school we did the Speedball block printing. The speedball being easier to work with and cheaper cost, etc.
You should check out David Bull on YouTube. He is good. Lives in Japan.

Speedball. Block printing. Ahhh, memories. Many of them painful!

(I am about to attempt printing on plexiglass or CDs.)

    Painful...I’m sorry...lol.
I guess I have been very lucky in that respect. Not even a scratch.
Hope all goes well on the printing.

My reading interests are broad. Modern and Victorian fiction, history, archaeology, pictorial art, architecture, palaeontology and a few other things.

I feed the local songbirds and I have a family of Herring Gulls which come for their bread every day. I'm generally interested in ornithology.

When I was in Dallas a couple of weeks ago went to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. They have a nice paleontology section. I like the trilobites myself.

There has only been one video game to catch my attention. I even went out and bought the game, the box to play it. Halo was the game. I heard they even planed a movie. Still waiting on that. Thanks

Goldfish and Koi. Love them, I have kept Red Cap Oranda’s. I like the way they look. I didn’t know I was treating them so well, until I saw fry all over the tank. Five in a 55 gallon tank was good.
A Zero Dark 30 rower??? No ideal on that one. Lol

"A Zero Dark 30 rower???" = "Zero Dark 30" is an offhand military term used to refer to being up before dawn breaks. A lot of PT (Physical Training) in the military takes place at Zero Dark 30. VertOlive may be a single sculler that works out at the break of dawn.

Yep, you pegged it. But here in the High Plains, the only water is inside the rowing machine!
