    Default Mystery Ink #21

During Mystery Ink #14 or #15 I mentioned that one of the MI's is an iron gall ink. Most of you indicated wanting to know in advance so you could choose not to participate if IG inks worry you. This is your notice. Newer IG inks (which this is) are supposed to be much more friendly, but I don't want to force anyone to use an ink which they aren't comfortable putting into their pens.

As with any mystery ink it is open to FPG veterans, n00bs, newbies, and lurkers. You volunteer, I pick names, I send free ink, you write with it and post your thoughts and observations. Guessing is welcome, but not required. There is nothing to "win" aside from personal satisfaction that you recognized it. No guess is confirmed until the mystery ink is finally revealed. The point of the mystery ink threads is an unbiased review. Fear not about the quality of your handwriting or sketching abilities. We don't care. We are all appreciative of those with the gift of artistic ability, but how well you draw or write doesn't impact your ability to test an ink and provide your opinion on it.

As always, international participants are welcome, but due to shipping costs can expect to receive the next 3 mystery inks and find themselves automatically nominated for the next few rounds.

I love mystery inks and think this is terrific of you to do. I'm always happy to throw my name in the hat but will defer to newbies who haven't participated before.

As long as it is a modern IG, I could try it out. That is if you need someone else of course. I will most likely just try it in one pen though this time.

For the sake of testing I have already loaded a steel nib pen with MI #21. We'll see what happens over the next several weeks. I'm really liking the ink. If I don't get a lot of volunteers I won't be sad on this one. It leaves more ink for me .

As it's a modern IG ink I would have been willing to try it out, and I would also have kept it in one pen. However, I already have a couple more MI inks coming up and this one wasn't included, so I don't mind either way.

As with previous months, I’ll throw my hat in the ring, but feel free to bump me for a newbie. I’ve been playing with some IGs recently so this is very relevant to me.

I am about to dive into MI21. I have three inks made of iron gall: old-formula Montblanc blue-black, Diamine Registrars Ink and Ecclesiastical Stationers Supplies Registrars Ink (a/k/a "ESSRI"). Now I have four. Thank you, Scooby!

I'll start with my Leroy W. Fairchild No. 5 and my John Holland No. 6. Stay tuned....

P.S. I just wrote on a 70-year-old postcard, and the ink did not change to the darker hue as when written on Rhodia. Go figure.
P.P.S. But it does change on plain ol' copier paper.

Might be something to do with the difference between acid-free paper and non-acid-free paper? Just a thought.

I don't know what to make of this IG ink yet...but I loaded a Safari and plunged 'write' in.

In the vial and the chroma, it's a cerise/fuschia color. But it dries dark. I believe it will flow better once it settles in to the pen.

Not very complex flower chroma, but interesting in that it retains the brighter color element:

The ink was very unhappy when I wrote to a pen pal using Clairefontaine paper. It writes better on Rhodia Ice. Which hardly even makes sense to me.

In any case, I love doing Mystery Inks. Thanks, Scooby!
My other pen is a Montblanc.

Quick look at this interesting IG ink. I do like how it looks after a minute or so, but not so much as it comes right out of the pen.

To appreciate the change in color on Rhodia paper, I should have photographed it seconds after writing, and then a minute later.
