Are you looking for brands and specific inks, or just wanting to know if we prefer blue, green, red, brown, black, orange, or something else?

With so many different colors out there it's really hard to narrow it down to just one. I suspect it's the same for many others. I can narrow down a few colors, but there are some which I like too many to just pick one.

    Red:
    Sailor / Bungbox Clown Tears
    Paradise Pen Vineyard Burgundy
My home-mixture of J. Herbin Rouge Hematite + Private Reserve Fiesta Red + Montblanc Seasons Greeting Brown

    Orange:
    Noodler's Habanero

    Yellow:
    None

    Green:
    Sailor Tokiwa-matsu
Sailor Jentle Joyful Honda Nikko Green
    Sailor Kusatsu Green

    Blue:
    Pelikan Edelstein Topaz
    Lamy Pacific Blue
    Colorverse Crystal Planet
    Montblanc Twilight Blue
    Montblanc Permanent Blue

    Purple:
    Caran d'Ache Ultraviolet
Mystery Ink #21 (just started the MI thread, so the ink hasn't been revealed yet)

    Brown:
    Franklin-Christoph Brown 732

    Black:
    Anata Burando Ryu-nou
Sailor / Kingdom Note Dorcus Hopei Binodulosus

Blue: Roher & Klinger Verdigris tied with Diamine Sargasso Sea.

Red: A home mix of Visconti red and a few drops of black. I only have about 6ml left, so I will have to come up with something else for dark red.

    Brown: Montblanc Toffee.

    Orange/Yellow: I don't like those.

    Green: Montblanc Racing Green.

Sort of. I don't know where else to put it on the color scale without getting technical and picking in-between shades .

I haven't really tried all that many ink samples yet so bear that in mind.

Brown: Diamine Macassar. Subtle shading, well behaved, seems to work in most of my pens

Red: Diamine Oxblood. I like dark red and this one also has subtle shading. Seems well behaved. I have more red samples to try though.

Blue: still searching but Diamine Oxford Blue is looking promising although if Diamine Twilight weren't so darned dry-writing I would go with that for the color. Another one I like is Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo.

I promise I am not paid by Diamine it has just worked out this way

Green: haven't tried my samples yet. It is NOT Colorverse Sea of Tranquility though. November Rain (yes Diamine again) is pretty awesome with the red sheen.

Purple: I've only tried a few. So far, KWZ Gummiberry is at the top. No I have not tried any Diamine purple inks

Red: Graf von Faber-Castell Garnet Red. A nice deep red that both stands off the page when you need it to and is still conservative (and non-glaring to the eyes) enough to actually write with.

    Brown: not my bag, baby.

Yellow/Orange: I don’t really use any. I mean, I use Noodler’s Firefly in my highlighters, but that doesn’t really count.

Black: Noodler’s Heart of Darkness. Were it not for the fact that black is boring, this could be the greatest ink of all time.

Blue: this one isn’t fair - “blue” encompasses so many completely different colors. I’ll have to subdivide this one:

    - Light Blue: Iroshizuku Ama-iro
    - Medium Blue: Iroshizuku Tsuyu-kusa
    - Dark Blue: Iroshizuku Asa-gao
    - Turquoise: Edelstein Topaz

Green: At the moment, Diamine Sherwood Green. Edelstein Olivine is a close contender, though.

Wildcard: Waterman Serenity Blue. Not an exciting ink by any criteria, but it’s well behaved, it works in any pen (an important diagnostic tool), and it has this incredible, indescribable trait of looking like a completely different ink in every pen I own. Honestly, it’ll look like ten different inks out of ten different pens.

Interesting thought with the Wildcard and a "diagnostic tool". I bought a bottle of Parker Quink Blue-Black per Sammyo's recommendation. It's not my favorite color, but it is a very good, consistent ink which simply works well in any and every pen I've tried. Not one I reach for every day, but definitely one I'll continue to keep in stock on my ink shelf.

    Hi,

    my favorite inks:

    Green:

Diamine Green Black, cold dark green, fine with EF or F nib
Diamine Racing Green, for broader pens
Platinum Forest Black, nice warm tone IG ink, good with wet nibs
Diamine Classic Green, beautiful warm green

    Blue:

Akkermann #10 Blue-Black. My darkest blue black, IG but not dry. nice and practical bottle
Pelikan 4001 Blue Black IG, great blue black, perfect with wet flex nibs. I guess if it was marketed as classic ink for 4x the price in a fancy bottle, it would be a cult ink...

    Black:

Herbin Perle Noir, good flow, deep darkness
(Still looking for a black IG ink... maybe they are not beeing made as too concentrated IG inks would let the pen clog?)

    Special Colors:

    R. Oster Bronze, it is greenish and brownish, nice shading, best on broad stubs.
Diamine Graphite, nearly black, also greenish, fascinating.

    Violet / Berry...

R&K Scabiosa, fascinating chamelion color, great with flex pens

    Red:

Diamine Matador, not too brite, not too dark...
Diamine Autumn Oak, what a shading! Not screemingly oversaturated

    Brown:

Platinum Sepia Black IG, fine true sepia color, dry, dark, moderate saturation
    Diamine Macassar, fine woody brown
Pelikan Edelstein Smoky Quarz for broard nibs, great shading

    Orange/Yellow:

Herbin Orange India, a real orange.

... inks are really fun! :-)

    Greetings
    Jens

    Dear Azkid,

Diamine just makes a lot of great stuff. :-)
I must try a sample of Oxblood... my problem with reds is that I seldomly use them...
About blue inks, I like the blue black iron galls best. School blue is not my taste, even good dark ones (Oster Midnight Sapphire) don't have that noble feel...

    Best

Blue: Noodler's Eel Blue, nice saturation and easy to clean. I use this exclusively at work and almost finished the bottle this year.

Red: Binder's Vintage Black Cherry, a custom mix of Aurora Black and Skrip Red which are both considered safe by Mr. Binder for vintage sac pens

Brown: KWZ Honey, a lovely color and has a vanilla smell

Orange/Yellow: Sailor Jentle Kin Mokusei, very nice apricot orange

Green: Chrissy & Fred's Racing Green, a custom mix of 3 Montblanc inks

Purple: DeAtramentis Aubergine, a nice dark royal purple

Black: J. Herbin Perle Noire, a classic black

I think it would take a while to elaborate my favourites list, so I took a picture of the Numbers Spreadsheet where I keep tabs on my ink....
    Here are my choices:

I forgot to mention, my classification of these inks, are based not only on aesthetics but also on behaviour as well as perceived performance.

There are a few of high quality inks in my less valued copper trophy zone due to my dislike of the colour.
And there are a few with lovely "colour/sheen/whatever", but with horrible performance (dryness, skipping, feathering...)
Anyway, this list is an ever evolving database that throughout the years has been tweaked by my experiences and moods!

Now that was cool! Sometimes I am not sure what to call an ink, because it isn't obvious what color category it is in. I have a list, but no spreadsheet. That is awesome, great job!
