    Default Fountain pen neophyte

Hi everyone! As the subject line states, I am still fairly new to the world of fountain pens. I started out with a Lamy 2000 about a year and a half ago, and have since acquired a Pelikan 200, a Sailor 1911, Sailor Pro Gear, a TWSBI Eco, and three gorgeous Parker 51s (forest green, midnight blue, and maroon). It wasn't till I received the latter that I realised just how much I enjoyed the different writing experience of a vintage pen. I'm now trying to learn more about other vintage models so that I can work on building a small vintage collection.

0.5mm vs 0.7mm graphite sizes is much like 9mm vs 45acp...they both work if you know what you are doing. - me

    Hi folks!

In Germany Esterbrooks are quite rare. A wide range of Sheaffers and a few Noodlers can be bought on amazon

    And of course:

    Well howdy new member!

Can’t you pick up an Esterbrook LJ with a 9000 series nib on ebay from Germany?

If you shop it you should be able to grab one under $40.00 US Dollars?

I highly recommend you grab a Noodlers Ahab or Konrad? I just got the new Limited Edition Ahab from Pen Chalet.....absolutely gorgeous!!

I actually travel to Germany quite often in order to see family. Aside from Pelikan or Kaweco, are there any (perhaps lesser known) German pen manufacturers that you would recommend?

You really have got off to a good start! There are no make-weights in your collection.

If you like German pens and you're starting to like vintage, Osmia is a lovely brand, which I rate very highly. It started off cooperating with Parker so there are quite a few models that look uncannily like the Parker Duofold.

Reform is a third tier manufacturer but I like the Reform Kalligraph for calligraphy; in fact all my calligraphy pens are German - Lamy Joy and Rotring Artpen being the others. The Kalligraph is a little black pen that doesn't look out of place with vintage Lamys and black Pelikans.

With Parker, the 65 is a much underrated pen with rather unusual looks that I've found as enjoyable as my Parker 51s. I managed to snag one from a charity shop for a ridiculously low sum and was instantly hooked.

But you don't have any French pens yet... you really should try a top class Waterman some time. :-)
