Computer Chess Champs
Has anyone been following the recent and ongoing computer chess championships? You can watch HERE
Not quite sure exactly how the various engines have been normalised with regard to hardware, but despite their individual high ratings (well above GM level) their endgame play is absolutely shocking.
Of particular note is the inclusion of Leela Chess Zero (LC0). This program has not been given anything but the rules of the game. It is a self-learning neural net that has reached a very high standard of general play by figuring stuff out for itself. It plays a lot of internal games against itself, and I believe it is also one of those programs that is outsourced much like the SETI search program.
Anyway, they are into the second stage now with the top eight engines battling out in a play-each-other-ten-times round robin.

Re: Computer Chess Champs
Very interesting! Seems like Stockfish is still ahead of the game.
