Default Vintage Pelikan Broken Cap Question

To those who have experienced a vintage Pelikan black cap breaking - When you look at the broken edges do they just look like normal material or do the edges have somewhat of an iridescent appearance?

My 400 cap broke last night, right along the base of the cap jewel. After realizing how easily it broke, and seeing this iridescence, I wonder if it was broken before and someone used pen shellac to "fix" it.

A picture would help! I think iridescence can result from the micro-textures created by a fracture itself, right?
