    Default Genuine Montblanc or not?

    Hello, dear community!

Have a question for all who can help - friend of mine inherited a Montblanc pen but he is not sure if it is a genuine one or fake.

As well as I can tell, guide book is fake because of mistake in word In struments on cover and converter is fake.

But as for pen in general - not sure what is that

Dear fountain pen community - help please)

PS. pen was bought in Eastern Europe - Russia probably, writings on code are in russian

    thanks everybody!

Almost certainly fake. Value about $3.50.

Fake Service Guide and fake converter. Take a strong magnet and see if the nib sticks to it. That will tell you if the nib is cheap steel that is made to look like a genuine Montblanc.

Everything there is a fairly common fake.

If you don't have a magnet you don't need to concern yourself with buying one. The nib is laser etched steel not properly engraved gold.

I'm not an experienced Montblanc owner myself (I have two), but it was really interesting to see this. I can't articulate why I think the service guide is a dead giveaway that it's fake, but there's just something about the printing on the cover. Even if there wasn't the error with "writing in struments", I'd still feel like there was something off about the printing. It reminds me of old Soviet-Era printed materials. There's something wrong with the spacing and font on "Mont Blanc", too.

Maybe I'm just waxing nostalgic over the bad old days of the Cold War, when I was a military linguist and my specialization was Russian.

The OP posted this thread 2 years ago and probably won't reply. It's simply a zombie thread that has been resurrected.

I'm surprised counterfeiters do such a poor job replicating authentic materials. Some of the problems in the OP's pictures are so obvious I don't know why the counterfeiter didn't fix them. It seems like just a little more effort and someone could produce a fake that's virtually indistinguishable from the real thing.

Yup. And counterfeit $3.00 pens. Even Hero's have been counterfeited.

It makes sense, assuming you don't have scruples, to use a known name to market your own junk.
