Beautiful day in Chicago. If you look closely, the Willis (formerly Sears) Tower antennae are in the background.

My house started as a cabin over a hundred years ago. It's grown slightly and oddly, I'm not sure which side would be considered the front or back.

    So, here's looking east,
    untitled-35-2.jpg

    and west,
    untitled-55.jpg

West is cheating a little as I'm not standing exactly at my door.

Two more. This is one of my pastures being used by the SCA, Society for Creative Anachronism, for their Beltane Festival a couple of weeks ago. 400 people reenacting the middle ages kept the llama, Llarry, quite amused by the spectacle of it all.

Great thread. Here is a sunrise photo from my patio looking probably Southeast, and then a photo snapped just now, with a light rain falling around 8 a.m., looking south and slightly west.

This oak tree is devouring a pine tree at a local park where we frequently take walks. The oaks in this park have lots of oak galls for making ink.

Wow, these views are just amazing! What great places for pen parties - even picnicking under a tree devouring a tree! :-)

    Great photos everyone!

I posted this in another thread so pardon the repost.

Living in the desert southwestern US (El Paso, Texas) far removed from major hub cities can have its drawbacks but we get the largest equestrian statue in the world. That counts for something, right?

My dad in the shot for a size reference.

El Paso is divided right down the middle by the southern most edge of the Rocky Mountains.

The desert means dust and dust means you can count on an awesome sunset almost every evening.

Travel north for 45 minutes or so and you run into Las Cruces, New Mexico. I get lost just looking at the Organ Mountains.

On the way to Las Cruces, if you are willing to take it slow, you can drive through the Pecan groves. This past season was not too good to the growers though. The summer rains never really came.

There is not much surface water around here even with the Rio Grande, which is not so Grand this far north, running through the city.

When it does rain, you can find taco stands at the end of Rainbows.

We are also on the border with Mexico but I do not go there as often as I used to.

When we want to get away from the summer heat, we go to Ruidoso, New Mexico where you can rent a cabin in the middle of the pine forests for a weekend.

Spring is when we get the sand storms. Really, it's the only bad time of year.

Winter is very mild. You can grill almost through the whole year but sometimes we do get snow.

I love chicago! My brother used to live there and I went to visit once. Road around on the L, explored the LOOP, did marshall fields, walked along the lake... I liked it a lot!
