    Default Gold Coating Thickness

Is there anyone who can speak of the thickness of the gold coating used on MB pens over the years? I would like to do some minor scratch removal on me 1990 149 but do not want to wear the coating away.

I wouldn't advise anything abrasive at all on the gold plating on any pen. The most abrasive thing I would ever do near any gold plating is a jewellers cloth or a Sunshine cloth and I would be really careful with that.

If you rub hard then the gold plating will come off.

Gold plating is extremely thin (fractions of a micron) and I don't think it will hold up to scratch removal.

Rolled gold plating (RGP) is much thicker (still only 20-40 micron) and will take a tiny bit of scratch removal, as I understand it.
