    Default Conway Stewart 289

    Hi a bit stuck bought the above had to to the hairdryer and sheet of rubber truck to disengage the section. But can’t get the nib and feed out to save my life pulling does nothing nor does turning even after a soak. Any ideas?

    Why remove the nib/feed from the section? It is rarely necessary to do so to clean a pen and make it ready to write.

    Note also that you typically push out a feed and not pull it out.

    If it is truly a 280 then you are working on a somewhat uncommon vintage pen. If you are taking it apart to replace the sac, these pens have a more complex lever/pressure bar mechanism than most. If you *aren't* putting in a new sac I can't figure out why you'd take a chance removing the section, and as Farmboy said, a nib and feed should only be removed when necessary - and cleaning that area is not a reason to remove them. If you did so, you would need a knockout block and (essentially) push the nib/feed out. Trying to grab the n/f, pulling or twisting, is a recipe for disaster on a pen that won't easily see replacement parts.

    I agree with everything above. No reason to remove the nib and feed but even if there was it should not be attempted without the proper tools.

    Yes, I've seen strangely deformed nibs (Mabie Todd Swan) that must have been twisted and pulled, sometimes using pliers...
