I am curious as to why people visit member's forum profiles. What are they expecting to find exactly?

Asking because occasionally I look at my own sparse profile and it is rather odd to see who is in the "recent visitors" log - not who I would expect (a very short list though this is).

When I look at someone else's profile it is in search of a specific thread or topic, though I don't do this often.

    As noted, just curious.

Perhaps that's just what everyone else is doing?

They also potentially tend to look to see whereabouts in the world members might be for Classified Ad items for example. Some members have that information on their profile, so that it appears on their avatar, while others don't.

I believe you currently have an item for sale. Maybe people want to know whereabouts in the world it is? All they know so far is that the price is in US$. Perhaps they want to know if it's located in the US or not?

Every time I've ended up on a profile page it's because I accidentally clicked the poster's name instead of the topic or the little arrow for the last post.

Actually, you can go to settings and select who can see what on your profile, so you could go to your Profile Privacy to make it all so that only your friends or contacts can see it if you want.

You can also make yourself invisible too. I'm not sure whether that means that you don't show up if you visit someone's profile or not.

I've accidentally clicked on peoples profile before. It usually happens when I click to quick when trying to add a "Thanks" to a thread.

Some of the old schoolers like to know who you are talking to
I like to see where you are, and probably what have you posted recently to have an idea of who am I talking to

Also when something is FS is good to know where it is
Unix is user-friendly ; it's just picky about who it's friends are -

Oh. I usually will look at a profile before I write to someone I don't know during InCoWriMo to give me an idea for topics. This is also why I write something on my own profile. If you hate something you see there, it saves you the trouble of writing (!)

Otherwise it's usually "Fat Finger Syndrome".

Surprise! I just visited everybody's profile

My problem is trying to click on the title of the thread to open it and instead accidentally hitting the poster's name right below it. It's not easy getting old and having to wear bifocals.

I'm usually interested to know a little more about the person. Where they are. Hobbies. Personality hints. Stuff like that. That's what the profiles are there for.

I used to belong to "that other pen forum" (maybe I still do, but I never found out how to resign). I put many entries in my profile there and suddenly began to get unwanted offers of merchandise and out-and-out scams. Now, I am much more careful about concentrating personal information in a profile. If someone wants to find out more about me, he will have to sift through a pile of posts; something a scammer probably doesn't have the patience for. Sort of like "burning the woods and sifting the ashes".

I've accidentally clicked on profiles -- and accidentally sent friend requests on Facebook (awkward! Didn't notice 'til it was accepted, then wondered... who...? what...?).

But sometimes I'm curious about the person or want to find his/her postings. In no way do I think that's odd.
