Default Ink Review: Cult Pens Deep Dark Brown ink

Today I'm reviewing Cult Pens Deep Dark Brown ink.

Cult Pens Deep Dark Brown is one of the 6 inks in the “Deep Dark” range that are made for Cult Pens by Diamine Inks.
Deep Dark Brown is a saturated ink that doesn’t exhibit much shading due to it’s saturation. I found it flowed very well with all of the pens I tried it in, felt quite wet, and it’s lubrication was really smooth across the page.
It’s a dark brown slightly grey leaning ink that lives up to it’s name very well. It’s darker than most of my brown comparison inks, and I thought Espresso and Macassar were really dark. I like that it still remains brown and doesn’t write as an “almost black ink”

My review was written on 100gsm smooth coated paper, that is not very absorbent, and I saw no spread, show-through or bleed-through until I wrote with the Lamy B nib, then I noticed a few dots of bleed-through plus a little spread.

It's not sold as a waterproof ink but showed a little water resistance.

It washed off of my hands easily with bar soap and water, and didn’t stain my pens or the insides of my converters that I rinsed out with warm water as usual.

    • Flow Rate: Excellent - wet
    • Lubrication: Very good - felt smooth across the page
    • Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
    • Start-up: Immediate.
    • Saturation: Saturated
    • Show-Through/Bleed-Through: The worst were CiaK by InTempo, and Tomoe River 52gsm paper.
    • Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: A little seen with my Lamy B nib.
    • Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not seen, even after several days in the pen
    • Clogging: Not seen.
    • Availability: Available in 80ml and 30ml bottles plus International sized cartridges from Cult Pens web-site.

That's a beautiful ink - Is there a little bit of silver sheen on that?

A lovely review as always. Actually does not look that much "deep dark" comparing with Macassar (I have never owned DDB just Macassar though so do not know)... is it so?

You're welcome. It's similar to Macassar, but a slightly warmer brown. I think CPDDBrown and Macassar are both about as dark as you can go without a dark brown looking almost black like Sailor Jentle DoYou does.

    I also reviewed Macassar
or you can check out other browns listed in the FPG Ink Review Index
