Default Lunchtime ink review: Diamine Sherwood Green

Lunchtime ink reviews! I'm taking one ink to work each day and doing one of these during my lunch.

Diamine Sherwood Green, dip test with TWSBI Eco 1.1mm stub, on Rhodia dotpad.

Good shading, a darker middling green that doesn't lean towards yellow.

Diamine uses the name Sherwood Green? Private Reserve produced a green ink with the same name (not that I'm recommending it).

Yep, a great source of confusion over the years. I've had the Diamine version as pretty much my go-to for many years, a really solid ink to use. I was interested to see this review of an ink I know very well. One or two others for variety, but this one is straight down the middle for my uses.

I'm amazed that name collisions don't happen more often, to be honest! At least for inks that are being released around the same time so there's no chance to search for competitors first.

    Thanks for the quick review!

I love dark green inks and have tried a bunch of them.

In the end, Diamine Green-Black and Sailor tokiwa-matsu beat out this ink as my favorite dark greens, but this is still a wonderful ink. Still have a bottle and enjoy using it. Highly recommended.

PR is a copycat in this matter, Diamine Sherwood green has come definitely first. Moreover being an English company it is also more legit in case of Diamine

What are their respective dates of introduction?

It isn't a new colour name in any case: see the number of Fender (and other) guitars, car colours, bags, fence paint, pottery underglaze... You seem to be able to get all sorts of paints in that colour.

Sherwood Forest is definitely very old, and I assume that's where Diamine got the idea of the colour from when they first made the ink.

I'm guessing a lot of the popular fashion use came from the 1950s car and matching guitar colour. Apparently it is also #1b4636 in hex colour code. (The things you learn!)

ETA: apparently it was a kitchen appliance colour in the 50s too.

Yo, Fred - that was username aurore that implied Diamine was first.

I tell you what I did find, though - tnmike1 on FPN requested a bespoke colour called Sherwood *Forest* from Diamine and posted about it in Nov 2009. He named it: "First thought was to name it after the woods in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings but then thought not many people would recognize the woods if they hadn't read the books. Hence Sherwood Forest since everyone remembers Robin Hood."

At the time, half the people talking about it were already calling it Sherwood Green by mistake. It became part of Diamine's continuing line. I do not know at what point it got renamed (or reformulated?) to Sherwood Green instead of Forest, but that is the only Sherwood Diamine currently have.

PR Sherwood Green already existed in slow and fast-drying versions at the time, the second of those formulated in 2007?

I was actually kidding a bit (regarding "copycat") which I do apologize for. Nevertheless I found out last night the same thing you did. And (as mentioned by other fellows) "sherwood" has been a rather popular marketing term to romanticize almost anything of a green colour.

Never tried PR Sherwood, but the Diamine is lovely and so is the review.
