    Default One ink...

If you were limited to ONE ink, what would it be?

If it had to go in everything, Waterman Serenity Blue.
Whereas if it had to do everything, Platinum Carbon Black.

As of today I think my ONE ink would be Platinum Classic Lavender Black. Beautiful color and color change. Reasonable performance. IG for some permanence.

I'm sure my answer will change as soon as I try a new ink.

My most common used ink, by far, is Waterman Serenity Blue. It's the first ink I use with any new pen because I know it's safe, easy to clean, and very well behaved. With the right nib and paper it can also have a nice sheen. That being said, it probably wouldn't be the one ink I'd keep (though it would be high on my list) only because I'd want a little more saturated ink. There are lots of great options but I'd probably pick Monteverde Horizon Blue. It's a purer blue that Serenity, has a little more shading and sheen (but still professional), and is still well behaved. There's another 3-4 I'd probably be happy with too (mostly blues).

I would choose ESS Registrars Blue-Black.

Luckily we are not forced to choose only one, it would be a pitty not to use so many great inks.

Edelstein Topaz. Vibrant enough to not be boring, but conservative enough for professional use. Well behaved; excellent shading. Also, it often looks like a completely different ink depending on the pen/nib, so it’s like having three different inks in one.

This is my favorite ink, but the lack of permanence is what made me choose something else if I could only have one.

Just ONE ink, huh? That would have to be Fountain Pen Hospital's Old Manhattan Blackest Black made by Noodlers. A bulletproof blackity black, we're talking about the blackness found at the bottom of Point Nemo where Cthulhu sleeps and dreams. No smearing, good on el cheapo recycled paper using fine nibs black. Just make sure that you really shake that bottle up before filling your pen.

I have no single ink that works in all my pens but for moderate permanence, work-appropriate color, excellent behavior in nearly all conditions, fast dry time, and more: Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black. I already use it in everything I can and it works in my favorite/best three pens.
